Chanse Creekmur Commits to Arizona State

Chanse Creekmur, a 6-foot-7 forward from Marshalltown, has committed to Arizona State Sunday, according to Net Gain AAU coach Marquise Watts. Creekmur had attended Minnesota's game versus Ohio State last month and had gotten back on Minnesota's scouting radar after deciding not to sign with Santa Clara in the early signing period.

Chanse Creekmur recently visited Arizona State and had attended their summer camp two years ago. The Sun Devils have former AAU and friend Trent Lockett on their roster, which gave them an edge.

Minnesota associate head coach Ron Jirsa recently watched Creekmur score 30 points and the talented shooter attend the Gophers' game versus Ohio State. Gopher fans were hoping that they would see an increased effort in landing Creekmur with an additional scholarship opening up with the departure of Royce White. However, the Gopher didn't express much interest in Creekmur after his visit, according to Watts.

Creekmur is currently averaging 20.1 points per game and recently Marshalltown’s all-time leading scorer. Creekmur made a school record nine three-pointers as he scored a school-best 42 points in an 89-81 win over Fort Dodge earlier.

Creekmur was in street clothes Friday night for their game against Ames for "violating the good conduct policy. He will have to miss four additional games. It was the second time they faced Ames in the past six days as they faced the Little Cyclones last Saturday in a game that was canceled twice, due to snow storms in Iowa.

Creekmur was also a standout quarterback and had drawn football interest from Iowa State after he led Marshalltown to its first undefeated regular season since 1947. However, if he were to play both sports in college, he would have to sign a football scholarship and Creekmur would eventually realize that playing both sports at a high level would be very difficult.

The Bobcats advanced to the Class AAAA title game, losing to Iowa City (which is led by Iowa commit A.J. Derby) 42-14. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 274 yards, including touchdown throws of 24 yards to Ty Steffensen and 15 yards to Jarred Carlson. The game was tied at 14-14 before the Little Hawkeyes pulled away. They sacked Creekmur seven times, forced two Creekmur fumbles and intercepted two of his passes.

Creekmur set single-season Class 4A records in completions, yardage and passing touchdowns this year, before setting the 4A title game record with 20 completions against the Little Hawkeyes. Creekmur also rushed for 475 yards this season (second among Bobcats) and had a team-best nine rushing touchdowns.

Creekmur shined in the football playoffs as he finished 20-for-36 passing for 305 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-25 win over Dowling Catholic in the state semifinals. He had 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns while also throwing for 231 yards and two scores in their 31-21 quarterfinal win over Ankeny.

Creekmur averaged 18.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a junior as he led the Bobcats to a 16-6 mark, losing to Cedar Falls 61-57 in the playoffs.

All signs pointing to Royce re-joining the team. Tubby's not using that extra scholly.

Is this his first or second time committing to ASU?

What else can you say .. Hope it all goes well for him and he's very successful at ASU.

One fantastic reason to go to ASU.

I always prefered places with water. Hot and dry gets old quickly. To each his own.

During the school year its mostly 68 degrees and sunny... not sure if these guys come home for the summer, but if they do its the best of both worlds.

I like the photo, but at my age, Depends on other things. Nice scenery, tho. Thanks for sharing.

I was referring to the coeds who probably are more enticing to an 18 year old than water.

The coeds are definitely hot but I don't know about the other part.

Winter in AZ and summer back in Minny sounds pretty good to me. Best of both worlds.

I really hope you are right. When I was thinking about it the other day, Royce only wants to go to school if he can play basketball, he knows he isn't going to graduate, so why go to school with this mess going on? So maybe he figures he will re-join the team in the fall (since Tubby would welcome him back) and take the time between now and then to focus solely on basketball.

I would be willing to give Royce another chance if he decided to re-enroll in the fall. I think he is far too talented to pass up on despite his childish ways. If he can stay eligible, play well on the court, and stay out of trouble, I could careless what type of media circus he creates.

Someone is going to have to explain the ASU advantage to me. You can see coeds wearing those exact colors all over the Minnesota campus.;)

The advantage is that this photo was taken at an ASU New Years party, outdoors!

:)

The women at the "U" don't compare to the women at ASU, that much I can assure you!

I have heard nothing but good things about ASU.

The women at ASU have more STD's.

Tuscon is better anyway.

(OK, fine, it would be pretty freaking sweet to be an ASU bball player)

He better get used to playing in front of empty stands because ASU fans don't care about basketball at all. Of course he's from Iowa so he's used to seeing empty stands.
