Crean is the man for IU.

IU only goes for the most prestigious coaches...They saw Crean as being one...the team has improved tremendously through the course of Big Ten play

OK.. so Bob Knight was there, what? 30 years.. so, first time they needed a new coach in three decades.. and they 'go for' a guy that had never been a head coach and eventually failed. That is one of "the most prestigious coaches" that II, II "only goes for"??

"Improved tremendously through the course of Big Ten play"? They have lost their last three, including losing to Purdue at Ass-embly Hall for the first time in more than a decade. The last three games also includes a loss at home to lowly-Iowa.

If that is tremendous improvement, what will they do for an encore? If* they reach 12 wins this season, you can celebrating doubling last year's win total. Wow, amazing!

You keep using the Purdue loss at Assembly Hall. I don't get it. History has nothing to do with this year's teams. Purdue is a top 5 ranked team and IU is unranked. It's not like it was Purdue vs. Bob Knights 1976 national championship team. Comparing apples to oranges here. Anyway, I digress. Again I do not think Crean is in the upper echelon of the coaching fraternity, however he's a very good coach who can recruit the type of players for that type of program. This will be a very dangerous team in a couple years.

Both of whom cheated their way into becoming "great" coaches. I don't think Crean would do that...although I know little about him...except for the fact that he had great success at Marquette, and put them on the map for eternity probably...I would have to say that making a final four run puts you in the top echelon of coaching.

Hahah... yeah, Crean put Marquette on the map for eternity. Al's brother died just this week (RIP) - I bet they both got a little chuckle out of your ignorant comment.

Thomas Aaron "Tom" Crean (born March 25, 1960), Mount Pleasant, Michigan) is the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team. His previous head coaching job was at Marquette University (1999–2008), where the program had averaged 20 wins a year, won a conference championship, and made six postseason appearances, including the 2003 NCAA Final Four, the program's third appearance all-time and first since 1977.

O.K ill rephrase that... He put them back on the map forever...btw...you seem to know a lot more about marquette...you are good at giving us info on recruits i'll give you that... But you seem to have a much more positive outlook on Marquette than the gophers....I think you kind of are in a tom Crean denial.....seeing as Marquette is choking this year under Williams...Crean moved onto bigger and better things...and took a much more high profile job at IU.

I think Al would be very proud of him...god rest his soul...not joking...Al is probably thankful that Marquette found such a wonderful replacement in Crean...carried on the legacy.

Young buck, you are simply ignorant on so many things.. "seeing as Marquette is choking this year under Williams"? Huh? We were picked to be 12th or 13th in the Big East and now have a real chance to make the tourney. We have played far beyond my expectations this year, despite many bumps in the road. This year has been sensational and impressive - I hold the highest respect for Buzz and the kids on this team. The choking comment shows that you have no clue. I do think Crean did all he was able to do at Marquette and I'm glad he's gone.

I was going to Jim Dutcher's camps long before you were born - don't worry, I've loved the Gophers forever and still do.

But, if you want to compare Minn to Marquette this year, they are opposites - MU has overachieved on the court... the UofM has underachieved... and looking ahead, Marquette has a solid class coming in, including Madison Memorial's Vander Blue (sorry, Rodents)... whereas Minnesota has nothing coming in. So, yeah, I may be more upbeat on MU and down on Minnesota currently, but it's with reason.

But - back to the topic - Crean is not one of the 'most prestigious', his coaching is overrated by some people, and II, II has not 'vastly improved'. Also, the tan one hates polar bears, puppies and world peace.

Everyone takes your comments with a "grain of salt" just to let you know....I hope the gophers match up with Marquette at an 8-9 seed...Who will you be cheering for?

I'd cheer for Marquette over Minnesota. You were only in kindergarten, but I think it was 1998 when Marquette played at Minnesota in the NIT... Gophers won by 2 and everyone stormed the court (yay, an NIT win!!!).

PS - Glad you know what 'everyone' thinks. Of course, half the claims you make have been dead wrong, so I'm not too alarmed or at all concerned.

I would agree on that 100 percent...I'm trying to say that he's on the cusp of greatness...but some people just don't understand.

Haha I admit that my information is sometimes a bit astray...but I know I am much more optimistic on the gophers than you are...and I think I'm probably a bigger fan...and seeing as this is a gopher message board...we can all say that I fit in here better than you.

Why didn't you go to the University of Minnesota for school?

It's great to support your team - but, being a kiss a$$ and blind 'homer' will only get you so far. Sometimes being real and talking about issues that are not all happy and good is a great thing.

If all you have is a group of people gassing another person or thing up, it's pointless and damaging. You're a young guy.. as an example, it happens all the time in rap music. Ask J-Strings.

Anyway, I'm saying Tim Cream is not the greatest thing in the world.. that has nothing to do with the Gophers.

I referenced Tubby Smith into the original post....and I prefer going to a smaller D1 school...Still a huge gopher fan.

Why do you keep bringing up Rap music? I know Crean is better than Rap music. Rap music sucks just like your posts. Biggie Smalls is better dead and so is 2PAC. Sorry your heroes were gunned down but that is the story of Rap. You keep this up you will be booted like Bronco. His downfall was bringing up Rap music!

Yes! I was one of the many that stormed the court and hung on the rim. LOL. That was a great game! I was also at the barn to greet the Gophers after they beat Clemson to advance to the Final Four. Although I guess it never happened

Another showing of 'vast improvement' for the Hoosiers today, as they lost another one by more than 15 points... this time to a team that has never, ever made the NCAA tournament. Wow, the tan one really has things working at II, II.

You've got some major abandonment issues GW. Take a deep breath and try not to be such an a-hole on this board. You've got some interesting takes, just tone it down and quit the Internet tough guy business.

Gopher Warrior, If I had my druthers, you would be kicked out of GH. At least put on probation. You have crossed the line too many times and you never learn. At Schrute Farms, you would be asked to leave and you would never be allowed to return.

Lets face it...Indiana was in the pooper before this guy took over only a few seasons ago. IU's vast improvement is stunning to me. This is an example of what a good coach can do for a program... IU is now competing against everyone... I'm just talking about their play this season...It's improving tremendously...

Those crazy fools that make a living out of setting odds some how have us as 16.5 point favorites. Shocking, isn't it akoch6767? II, II's vast improvement is stunning to you... what's next for them? A few single digit losses to finish off the season? Stunning!

PS - do GH's ever have pregame meet and greets? If so, any plans for tomorrow night?

As long as the gophers defend the perimeter shot well by closing out on Dumas and Verdel Jones, the gophers will win. They also have to box out Tom Pritchard to eliminate those easy offensive rebounds, and easy put back shots. Yes, I do think the Hoosiers have improved greatly, and yes they will shock us all next season! I'm not saying that they will win the conference by any means! I'm expecting an NU like season from them...maybe 8-10 conference record with 18-20 wins. Just wait and see!

I'm a Crean fan, but I tend to agree with GopherWarrior here. This IU team is NOT improving. They have lost seven straight and ten of their last 12 games. Their last four have been big, big blowouts (average loss has been 19 points). Wisconsin beat them by 28 points last week. Iowa beat them by 15 in Bloomington. They are 3-10 in the Big Ten. Yes, they were hit by sanctions two seasons ago. Yes, they lost Maurice Creek this year. BUT, it appears they have cashed in on the season. They have not been playing well of late. I would hope Minnesota beats them by big double digits tomorrow.

I figured I'd never say it, but it looks to me like Iowa is the bottom feeder that has been improving. They should have beaten Michigan the other night. They blew out Northwestern last week. They also have three Big Ten wins. I thought they would go 0-16 after watching us dismantle them after Christmas.

All that said, I do think Crean is good coach and they will be in the NCAA tourney soon.

Someone on here got booted out for giving praise to Iowa. I actually kind of think Iowa is getting better, I agree. If the gophers maintain the intensity and play team ball they won't have any issues beating Iowa and IU at home.

I agree that he has done a good job with what he has and every year they are improving.

Come back to this post in 3 years and see where they are at.
