He was just before I started to follow the Gophers. I did not realize that he almost made the Dolphins.
I was at both games. He was my first “Gopher QB”.Thank you for posting this. Curry started in both 1970 and 1971 and his teams were not very good. In 1971, the Gophers hosted #10 Ohio State. Down 14-6, Curry led the Gophers on a last minute drive. They scored to make it 14-12 and, on the 2-point PAT try, Curry kept it on an option play and came up a few inches short. Warmath wasn't much for sideline theatrics but he threw a tantrum that Woody Hayes must have admired. Curry's last game was also Warmath's, vs. the Badgers, of course. Down 21-16, Curry guided the Gophers downfield again in the last minutes and this time cashed in with a short touchdown pass with just a few seconds left. So nice to get the Axe back and to see both of them to go out on a joyous note.
