The football team recently had a close win against Rutgers. How do you feel about the state of the team? Is this where you’d hoped they’d be? (Note: This interview was conducted before the 40-17 win over Illinois.)

I joke, ‘It’s great when they win them all.’ We’re 5-2, and we have a very important game on Saturday at Illinois, and any time you have a conference game on the road, they’re important. As … I’ve talked about before, in my five months, I’ve enjoyed getting to know [head coach Tracy Claeys]. I know that staff worked incredibly hard. I know our student athletes are working incredibly hard. Again, we look forward to taking it one week at a time. … We’ll go past that and move forward.

Depends on who you have on deck as a replacement.... I might be very happy to keep this staff.

As for the AD, dude can't throw down "I'm so gonna fire this guy if he doesn't get 8 wins" publicly.

Instead of ummm, Coyle says, "they work incredibly hard" to preface any response. Hard to tell what he's going to do with coaches. Lucia slammed him for taking so long to get the extension done as a recruiting handicap. That makes it seem like Lucia's not too concerned Coyle has any bite to him.
I thought Coyle's response to football players restraining orders was odd....that he has no involvement. But in earlier comments he "fights for his coaches to give them what they need" and his athletes? But a crisis comes up and he has no involvement?

He has no involvement with the restrainning orders... and part of his job is to get the coaches what they need.

Hopefully we beat Purdue and get another win or two in our last three games. Better yet, win out and get a decent bowl win which hasn't happened since Mason.

Can't decide if "obtuse" or "clueless" best describes you. A young woman brings assault charges against
several football players. The police are investigating and you expect an AD to get actively involved? Un ... fricken ... believable!

Coyle is a smooth character in public; he is a study in bland answers. And there's nothing wrong with that. Politicians in all fields distance themselves from controversy like they would the bubonic plague. It doesn't mean they aren't active behind the scenes but they don't want to give ammunition to their detractors. This Coyle is an experienced operator.

If this is truly what you expect, I'd respectfully suggest that you are never going to be happy as a Minnesota fan. Perhaps you should check out the Baylor Bears.
