Cosgriff on Battle: “I am going to make it my cause to go out and see if we can hang a banner of her at Williams Arena.”

Are you saying she is a great player?

Never said that did I?

You’re the one who said she wasn’t, so the logical question to be asked is, how do you specifically define one?

If you’re not willing to follow up with a reply, then this quite frankly is baloney and you aren’t interested in an honest conversation, my friend.

Amaya had close to 800 rebounds, and 600 assists.. 188 steals..

Bell had 6 Less TO's then Amaya had and 100 less assists then Amaya..

Testy.. I asked if you thought she was a good player my guy that’s all.. I wanted to know before I responded…

Battle #3 deserves to be up in the rafters...

she was one of the BEST PG we have had in a long time..

1,533 Points (10th)
599 Assists (2nd)
651 Defensive rebounds (2nd)
128 Games started (2nd)
776 Total rebounds (10th)
188 Steals (10th)

Bell has more points by over 500 points.. 5 less assists and more steals in her career.. IN less game… …. Than Battle

Not really 🤠

Gaslighting me because I asked a simple question of you, speaks to your character, not mine, my friend.
I asked if you thought she was a good player
You used “great”. Are you a goal post mover for Parks & Rec😎
my guy that’s all.. I wanted to know before I responded…
I find answering an earnest question (mine)with a question rude and uncouth.

Maybe you realized 🤔 the fallaciousness of your position, because you are using data for one player (Bell) to prove she’s great, yet discounting Battle’s data, because she was good enough to start for four years years and strong/durable enough not to get hurt. You can’t have your cake and eat it to 🤷‍♂️

The great thing is that U doesn’t care what two 🤡, you and me think.

Is she great… Yes or no? I am not a wordsmith like Rakim or Nas…

Eye test tells me if someone is great.. I don’t think Bell nor Battle were great… I think IMO Bell was better two time first team all big ten.. Banham great.. Whalen great.. Shudlick great.. for example

I’ll miss Battle and am happy to celebrate her in whatever ways the U decides in the future. At the same time, I’ve been around long enough to know Cosgriff was the opposite of a friend of the Gophers during his coaching career. I don’t give a flip what he thinks the U should do.

I agree about Battle however she is celebrated not my decision and welcome it.. I would not glue myself to the Barn floor in protest..

Furious Styles did I say Bell was great?
I’m done with the garbage.

I was engaging you sincerely regarding a comment you posted, not me, which you won’t defend; I don’t operate this way Reuben.
You’re right I’m wrong - now go celebrate and tell your local Applebees.

You can still position yourself as a hoops guru on the board, but alas I won’t be able to see your posts - Oh Well🤷‍♂️😃

Thanks for your clarification regarding her stats.

I’m a baseball player/guy, never heard Cal Ripken’s stats knocked because of how many games/how durable he was😉

This won't be popular...I think Battle has greatness in her...without her Minnesota doesn't advance to the Sweet 16. Coach P seems to want a program where all 5 girls score in double figures. I don't think Battle or Braun played to their abilities under Coach P....but, they followed the coaches desires and the team had success.

I'd say a Sweet 16 from where we were is worthy of Battle getting individual recognition. She'd be my MVP the last two years.

In baseball parlance, Battle should be a member of the Hall of Very Good, not the Gopher Hall of Fame.
I can see that, and as this is my first year of following them to this extent, so maybe I’m completely wrong, but maybe induct her and Bell in the same year, each gets their own night, it doesn’t have to be a binary choice😃

I think capitalizing on the momentum the program has now and including the best player from the genesis of a new glorious phase seems jolly fine to me.

I believe in Coach P, even when she was being questioned earlier in the season, that she will be here long term and make this program a consistent winner, just like Niko is going to do, and five years from now we’ll all realize Amaya was a foundational building block of the glorious phase.

I wasn’t a Battle as a PG fan originally. I thought she looked for her own shot far too often. But she eventually transitioned to not only a good PG, but also a guard with enough talent to take over offensively when everyone else was struggling. She also played solid defense and was an excellent rebounder. My highest compliment: She could play for me anytime.

Should she end up in the rafters? That’s mostly subjective, as even those up there already, can be debated. While not a criteria in any other era, one other thing could be a consideration, and not only for her. She and several others arrived in a time of considerable confusion and angst in college athletics. They arrived with a vow to help turn the women’s program around, to return to the Whalen/McCarville level excitement. Most of this group stuck with the program, and with their vow, though all the upheavals of a coaching change, and the ever changing dynamics of NIL. They could have left for greener pastures anytime, but didn’t.

Is that "loyalty" enough to push her into the rafters? As stated above, it’s all subjective. But subjective or not, it is a consideration.
