Conor Rhoda - Success Story (so far so good)

Maybe but it will hinge on the QB position. We have no real clue what is behind Mitch on the depth chart right now in terms of viable options or how well Green will do long term. I would say the potential for the offense to be better next year exists if the QB position is locked down. If it is in flux, who knows.

On top of that we have to get better play from the offensive line then what we are getting right now.

I see your point. I feel we're forced to run first next year and that will make us better.

Rebuilding? We lose our QB, RT and one WR. I think we are equal to better next year on offense.

QB is the most important single player on the field. The line should be better but I'm not getting the warm fuzzies about the QB situation. But, this college football. Anything can and will happen. We've got to break in a new guy at some point. It will be fascinating to see what happens.

QB will be interesting next year. There has been no real competition for starting the last two years. It was Mitch's job and everyone knew it. The dynamic of the position will completely change come next spring.

Exciting!

And scary...

Yes and no....yes there was a clear cut leader heading into the season but I honestly believe that had one of the young guys out played him and shown they were a better option at the position they would be starting right now. Claeys has to win now, he is going to play the best option at the most important position on the field.

But you are right, things will almost certainly be wide open next year with no clear cut option at least at the moment.

But - the OL must play better. If the Gophers don't get better OL play, they can run Shannon Brooks 40 times a game, and it won't make a difference. If they don't get better OL play, they could start Tom Brady at QB, and it would make only a minor difference.

No OL - no offense.

I went around and around with Spoofin on this very subject in a recent thread...needs to seriously give it up on this one.

Haha, OK I'll take your advice and shut my trap on this one.

I can hear you guys talking about me.

For the record, my initial point with PMW was that if a situation like this week arose - Croft would start over Rhoda. I have already conceded that was wrong and admitted that. In other words - I have given it up. I still think Croft would be a better choice, however. That is based on my decades of scouting experience as a Gopher Fan.

Can we all get along now?

I thought that odd as well, but who knows? Gobie as probably as plugged in as anyone. Maybe Williams feels like his best chance in the NFL is at WR.

My takeaway is that we are in for a rebuilding year on offense in 2017 unless one of the guys develops more rapidly than anticipated. Maybe also why we are combing the JUCOs and prep schools for QBs.

I was thinking similarly...maybe he doesn't think he'll see the field much as a QB for the Gophs...
