Its a shame that Jerry Kill is taking bullets as a result of Maturi's incompetence!!
The other pitiful thing is they played the audio today of when Maturi announced Kill and when he announced Brewster as the new coach. The idiot Maturi gave the same statement for both coaches, that a wide net was cast and it kept coming back to Brewster/Kill. The idiot is too dumb to not even draft a new statement, simply erased Brewster's name and inserted Kill's.
Maturi is a complete disaster, but i'm not so sure that another AD in Maturi's situation would have landed much better of a coach. A lot of coaches who are in decent situations already would be extremely reluctant to coach in a place where the President and the AD are almost out the door. I will say this though, if anyone could have gotten a bigger name hire under these circumstances, that certainly WASN'T Maturi.
As far as Maturi on the aspect of PR. He botched this entire hiring up. I am a big fan of Jerry Kill, but Maturi cut his legs from under him. If MAturi would have just said that "we are looking for a proven winner with head coaching experience who will come to MN and put together a staff and system that is fundamentally sound and hard working", he wouldn't have had 1/2 the backlash that he created for himself. All this JR High nonsense about a "Tubby-like" hire and "I can't believe HE'S interested" was buffoonish.
lol. Link to the Brewster audio?
I can't believe Maturi actually recycled an introductory speech. That's about like something Michael Scott from The Office would do. I can't even think of a word to describe such a thing, it's just like wow, man. It is so lame and just so incredibly sorry that it just boggles my brain.
What, you couldn't be bothered to formulate the effort to sit down for 20 minutes and write a proper introduction that reflects the personal and professional respect that your new coach absolutely deserves?
It's like he doesn't even care or something at this point, and he's just mailing it in. I am so damned tired of his pissy attitude and defeatist nature. If you're defeated, then get out.
Robert F. Kennedy put it best; ""Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why'? I dream of things that never were and say, 'Why not'?". We deserve someone who thinks and believes they can, rather than searches for reasons as to why they cannot.
This guy's a creep. It's time to go, Joel.
"From day one, I knew we wouldn't get a Tubby Smith hire because I knew from day one that there wasn't a BCS coach who wanted this job, probably -- that's just fact."
I'm just surprised Maturi would be so honest about the process.
We will have the audio at 6:49 p.m. on Ch. 5 during our 6:30 p.m. newscast Sports hit... he definitely said it. It was a Joe Schmit question. Jon from the AP was in the scrum. Just listened back.

Changing the quote? Did he know this after firing Brewster or after he the search started? You should ask him that question. My guess the spirit of his statement was that once the search started he knew the 'tubby hire was not going to happen.
Well, we know one thing.... Maturi knows how to use the "Find and Replace" function in MS Word.
The question is: would a different AD have landed Tedford, Mike Stoops, etc.? My thought = YES.

His quote was "From day one", if by "once the search started" you mean 30 seconds after he said it I think you have it pegged.
Your flat out wrong.
