Comprehensive Q&A with Kill from Marcus, lots of good stuff

Coach is stubborn, isn't he?

He knows he royally pissed off 12k travelling Gopher fans at the end of the half. It's bothering him a bit, I think.

No, 12K traveling Gopher fans weren't pissed. There were about 4 or 5 who were loud enough to hear around us. A few scattered boos as the half ended. No talk about it after the game. If anyone was complaining it was about the fumbles and the special teams play. Once again, someone at GopherHole thinks we represent all Gopher fans.

I believe the intent is that they are going to start adjusting how they recruit D-Linemen. Their philosophy has always been to find guys with a good frame, then put on muscle over time, and make up for lack of size with speed. It may have worked at previous stops, but they have struggled in the B10 against teams with big O-Lines and like to run (OSU, Wisconsin, MSU, etc). For their entire tenure, they have been forced to play freshmen on the D-Line, especially on the inside. Most of young guys (i.e. Epke, Stelter, Nando-Lay) who were forced to play DT the past 2 seasons are undersized and get pushed around too much. The only one it has worked out is with Richardson, but his quickness and pad-level are sort of unique. My interpretation is they think they can try and target some of the bigger DL prospects that wind up in the SEC or other B10 schools. I'd like to see this change as well.

My thought as well. I don't know all that much about defensive line scheming, but it seems to me we need a good "garbage man" to clean up behind Richardson. They are going to stunt with Richardson a lot (as they should), but I thought they stunted with the other guys a bit too much and that led to some big plays up the middle. Got to have a bit more bulk.

This is so on the mark. Talking to those around me, walking to the shuttle, riding the shuttle, seeing people out that night...all we talked about were the 4 or 5 big plays that totally changed the game: fake punt, onside kick, muffed punt, Mitch fumbles, Berk drop, overthrow to IF. Not one person mentioned the series before half. I talked with my brother about my disappointment in the moment, but we quickly moved on.

Thanks for the post. It appears that what is reality at the GopherHole and what was reality at the game is quite different. Surprise, surprise.

Jerry Kill is going to sit on that ball 8/10 times as will most traditional coaches, so just get over it. Oregon, Missouri, and others are the exception and they have the talent to move the ball.

The Denny Green "taking a knee" cmplaint was equally moronic, as almost no NFL coaches are going to throw the ball inside their own 30 yard line with overtime looming.

End of story
