Demetrius Martin leaves Dorrell staff for Eugene...Gonzalez, hm all PAC cb is in portal

Brenden Rice, Christian Gonzalez enter transfer portal

The exodus of talent has begun in Boulder, as the Colorado Buffaloes have now lost two of their best players and another starter. Star receiver Brenden Rice announced on Saturday night that he will depart from the program, following defensive backs Christian Gonzalez and Mark Perry in the transfer portal.
Rice and Gonzalez seemed almost too talented to be stuck in the morass that was the 2021 Buffs. That turned out to be true, as they have more than enough skill to be impact players on better teams. There’s no reason to risk injury on a team that looked middling at best, hopeless at worst, not when they have NFL dreams and a long list of college suitors.
Maybe these players are leaving because their position coaches are no longer at CU. Darrin Chiaverini, offensive coordinator, receivers coach and lead recruiter, was fired after he coached the worst offense since the halcyon days of Bernard Jackson. Defensive backs coach, just left for the Oregon job. More likely, however, it seems that these players are jumping a sinking ship before it’s too late.

I thought we offered Christian Gonzalez at one point?

Colorado’s secondary took another hit Saturday night.

Senior Mekhi Blackmon, who has started each of the past two years at cornerback, announced his intention to put his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Blackmon’s announcement came just hours after the Buffs’ other starting cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, announced that he will play at Oregon next season. Gonzalez entered the transfer portal last month. Starting free safety Mark Perry is also in the transfer portal.

Colorado will have a new leading rusher next season.

On Thursday, running back Jarek Broussard announced he has put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, adding to the growing list of Buffaloes to leave this offseason.

Broussard has led the Buffaloes in rushing in each of the last two seasons and was named the Pac-12 offensive player of the year in 2020.

Broussard is the 18th scholarship player from CU to enter the transfer portal since September and the 14th since the season came to a close on Nov. 26. He is the fourth player to go into the portal in the past six days.

Broussard is also the fifth starter to leave, joining cornerbacks Mekhi Blackmon and Christian Gonzalez, safety Mark Perry and receiver Brenden Rice. Gonzalez (Oregon) and Perry (TCU) have already committed to other schools.

Over the past two seasons, Broussard rushed for 1,474 yards and five touchdowns in 16 regular season games. He added 82 yards and two touchdowns in the 2020 Alamo Bowl.

This past season, Broussard led the Buffs with 661 rushing yards while sharing the job with Fontenot. Broussard scored both of his touchdowns in the first two games.
After a slow start to the season, Broussard had his first 100-yard game in Week 9, rushing for 151 yards against Oregon State. He added 108 yards the next week at UCLA.

Broussard added 13 catches for 81 yards last season and 20 catches for 133 yards over the past two years.
