College football has to do away with big games week 1

They mean less in the polls and that is the importance of playing them in week #1. It gives the loser 12 weeks to make everyone forget about the game. Losing this game in week 2-4 is probably more damaging.

Additionally, the teams pour more preparation into this game in week #1 knowing they likely have a cupcake the next week.

I feel like this is the yin and yang of college football.

"OMG THESE GAMES ARE MEANINGLESS WHY PLAY THEM!"

and if we got what we wanted

"OMG ALL CUPCAKE GAMES THIS IS HORRIBLE!"

Someone can check me on this but I'm fairly certain college football on average is higher scoring than the NFL.
I wasn't talking "on average" - I was referring to the games on Saturday that were being critiqued. Overall, with some games between un-equally matched opponents, you do get lots of scoring.

The point I was trying to make is that the NFL is set up for fantasy football and all the offense and maybe that's what the OP is expecting to see on Saturdays, and I'm glad I'm not seeing that.

When the Texas-OSU series was scheduled, I don't think they thought that there would be 2 first time starters at QB against prime defenses.
