..takes a jab at the Gopher football program on Sports Nation today. Coleman's pushing Brusewitz into the bench was featured on 3 tears. Cowherd drops the gem "If only Minnesota's football program was that physical. I mean really, when's the last time the Golden Gophers made it to the Rose Bowl? I'll answer my own question. Forever"

Now I can justify my hate of that prick. Maybe Kill could use that little soundbyte for some motivation?

Psst....you forgot to include the jab.

You're probably right. He kept going on and Beadle interrupted him. Why he brought up football when a basketball highlight was shown, I don't know. I'm just venting my frustrations.

It is getting close to forever, I would agree with him on that But, . . .

That said, Cowherd is the single biggest front-runner on sports radio, and that is saying something. In Cowherd's world, the Yankees would play the Phillies every year in the World Series (only because they can't play the Red Sox); the Giants would play the Patriots every year in the Super Bowl; the Lakers would play the Celtics in the NBA Finals, North Carolina would play UConn in the Final Two, and it would be Alabama vs USC for the BCS Championship.

Pee-yook.

He is the one of, if not the premier, "king-makers" amongst the entire gang of king-makers at the 4-letter network.

He's a caffeineated, materialistic, shallow, shill for all the "name" programs in any sport. A boring, unfunny, me-first, mouthpiece for the easy "adopt-a-team" crowd that buys all that "gear" at Foot Locker and Finish Line across the country.

Sad.

Your post made me laugh. There was a guy I used to work with who's favorite teams are the NY Giants, Yankees, Lakers, Red Wings, and Florida Gators. I'm not joking. Guess who his favorite sports radio host was?

He's a lot better to listen to than anyone from k-fan.It was already stated previously, but he is best in the biz. Most of the time he is right on.

Cowherd is the same jerkoff who made the stupid statement that winning and NBA Championship is equal to winning a Purple Heart. How does this guy have a tv and radio gig is beyond me.

Spot on. Nothing to add. He is unlistenable.

Don't listen to much sports talk radio, but I've caught Cowherd a couple of times and I think he's an absolute no-talent. A real "dog bites man" guy. One of the reasons that some may think him "spot on" is that he never thinks outside the box on the big stuff.

Yeah, he says some really stupid things all the time. When talking about the whole BCS/playoffs thing awhile back, someone mentioned that the lower levels, including Ivy League schools, are able to have a playoff system and its not a problem for them. His response, "they aren't real athletes." This coming from a guy who probably got cut from his pee-wee football team. That was the last time I've ever listened to his radio show.

Didn't he once encourage his listeners to all go to a website at one time, resulting in it being overloaded and being knocked offline for a few days? He's the type of guy that will say just about anything about anyone over the air, but if he would end up in the same room as someone he's ripped on, he'd go hide in the corner.

I guess Cowherd has never heard of Marcellus Wiley. Which is odd because they share the same employer.

When I saw the thread title, I thought to myself. I don't know who that is. After reading some of this thread, guess I'm not missing anything by not knowing who this jack ass is.

National sports talk radio is the biggest bunch of garbage in the world. It's for people with no real allegiance or happen to live in places so non-essential that they have no other options. For as much as I get frustrated with our local guys, I would never tune them out to listen to some loser like cowherd.

Yea...a lot of the time he says a lot of dumb stuff to get ratings.

Yes, he's the a** who told his listeners to DNS attack The Big Lead.

He's a carbon copy of every other ESPN employee. Goes out of his way to be either wacky, zany or controversial. I grew tired of ESPN a long, long time ago. Show some highlights, report the scores and pertinent information and move on. If you need to invent a catchphrase to get people to notice you, you're not very good at your job. Say what you want about the Twin Cities media, but I think we're pretty lucky with Schmidt, Rosen and Shaver. There's a reason Russell Shimoka lasted about a week.

Wow. Lot's of hatred.

Hate to be the lone dissenter but I'm a huge fan. Yes, he comes across as a front runner but he tells it like it is; the NBA IS more interesting and more relevant when the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, Bulls are good. There are fewer people watching the NBA Finals if it's Memphis against Portland than there are if it's Lakers-Bulls. There are fewer people watching the Rose Bowl if it's Northwestern against Oregon State than there are if it's USC-Michigan.

One of the things he speaks to regularly is that fans are to some extent hypocritical; You say you want parody, upsets, and the triumph of the little guy. But TV and media ratings don't lie; As painful as it sounds, people pay more attention to sports when teams like Duke, Michigan, the Yankees, the Lakers, and USC are relevant and successful.

People say they love the NCAA tournament because of the upsets by the little guy but he's right; when teams like George Mason and Butler are in the Final Four instead of Kansas and Kentucky and Duke, fewer people watch. It's a fact.

Cowherd is only a few years older than me and I agree (albeit sometimes reluctantly) with 90% of what he says. He knows his stuff, he does his homework, and he doesn't apologize. People hate hearing the truth, that's why "the truth hurts". His show is about ratings and he knows more than ANYBODY what drives ratings. He flat out talks about it more than anybody else. He knows people care more about the NFL than MLB baseball, even in March and April; he knows 95% of fans are lunatics, idiots and "fan"-atics and he calls them out about it.

I think the deal about the website(s) is that because so many listen to his show, there have been times when just mentioning somebody's website has caused such a rush that smaller servers can't handle the traffic and have crashed. As a result, he usually prefaces most mentions of smaller websites with something to the effect of "don't all go rushing there at once."

I am not a Colin Cowherd fan because he kind of reminds me of Skip Bayless. I think guys like that are about 50% bit. They both say a lot of things with the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people. It's kind of like trolling.

I listened to him a bit when they switched over 1500.
Couldn't disagree more with you about "knowing his stuff", etc.
His takes were more in line with a shock jock than anything, basically what stance can i take to piss off the most people. His USC takes were laughable. i remember him describing Dillon Baxter as "from his sources", better than Reggie Bush by far, the next Barry Sanders, will do things on the field no freshmen has ever done in CF history.
The kid did nothing against our bad defenses in 2 games, and is off the team now for whining.

IMO he makes his money off of the east/west coast crowds who love to rip every other market. He doesn't care because there's alot of frontrunner fans and population centers in big markets, but he's not any sort of a sports officianado.

Generating ratings doesn't equal insightful knowledge or knowing his stuff.

Well atleast he knows that we have a football team and that they've been struggling "for like ever" bad pub is better than no pub

To add to this, Baxter was kicked off the team at San Diego St. (where he transferred after being kicked of the team at USC) before even participating in a practice:

A shrewd judge of talent, that Cowherd is!

He is very complimentary of the Twin Cities area. He even said he'd live there in a second if.. wait for it.. "it didn't snow in June."

I immediately thought Cowturd was horrid as soon as he landed his current slot on the family of networks. He joined Rome in the "unlistenable" category (for me).

Both are popular (on very different levels), but I would much rather listen to anything local, or nothing.

I'm not a big fan of his radio show, he sounds whiny and is a jerk to 90% of the callers. But I do like SportsNation which is more of a comedy sports show which is where this comment if from. The comment doesn't bug me at all, taking jabs is a part of the show.

I agree with you B-Town, the comment doesn't really bother me if it was part of a SportsNation type of thing. That's the entire point of the show and taking jabs at programs and such is sort of what it's about. He still isn't entertaining to me but that kind of gimmick doesn't bother me.

The gimmick doesn't bother me but when it gets to the point where he won't stop talking about it, which is what happened, I think it's more than a gimmick.

Umm... This thread is absolutely laughable. Some of you gopherholers are the most biased, close-minded people I have ever seen on a message board. It's absolutely ridiculous.

-We don't want the Vikings touching our precious TCF, even if it means we get heating coils and an improved stadium
-That Colin Cowherd meenie made fun of our pathetic Gopher football team.
-Patrick Reusse doesn't know what he is talking about.
-Minnesota sports media isn't very good, if only we had good reports.
-If only our campus wasn't located in a metropolitan area we'd be good.
-EAST COAST BIAS! THE WORLD IS OUT TO GET THE LITTLE GUYS!

WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE

Are most of us not adults hear? Do all the sensible fans a favor and stop acting like the world hates you. The truth of the matter is, Minnesota sports have been a disappointment since the early 90s. We are in a 20 year doubt of any sort of championship, we are a joke to the outsiders looking in. It's okay to talk about Cleveland and how terrible there city is in sports, but if anyone dare say anything negative about our precious Minnesota, everything blows up.

Two words: Grow up.
