Cody Larson, a highly regarded 6-9, 235-pound post from South Dakota who had signed with Todd Lickliter's Iowa Hawkeyes, has been granted his scholarship release by new coach Fran McCaffrey.

Tubby had recruited Larson before he committed to the Hawkeyes. He matches up with our needs; depending on what happens with Walker, would Minnesota consider signing Larson, and would Larson have interest in us?

Well, small forward is most definitely an area of need and I would be willing to bet with Carter's transfer, the coaches are looking for a small forward for next year. Whether that becomes a guy like Cody Larson, I'm not sure. I know that Larson was considered by some to be Iowa's best recruit for next year so that's a tough blow for McCaffrey and the Hawks

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Larson's recruitment now that he's officially out of his LOI.

Cody was suspended at the end of the year for what appeared to be a pretty big scandal involving illegal selling of prescription drugs but the more I hear about it, the more it sounds like he really did very little wrong and it was nothing that would stop a school from recruiting him. Cody is a PF though and I doubt he would be willing to wait until mid June to see the outcome of Trevor's trial to seee whether we need another PF. However, MN is one of the schools that have already been contacted by the Larson's, plus another Iowa recruit is also contacting other schools to gauge interest if he we're to be released and MN was one of those schools.

McCabe?

Aren't there restrictions on transfers withing the Big10?

Not if they are released from the LOI. These are incoming freshman.

It's not a transfer, he was let out of his LOI. He hasn't attended school yet. I'm pretty sure we could get him. If Tubby actually recruited him prior to his commit to Iowa, then I bet Tubby goes after him again. I would love to sign EE, Hollins, CJ, Walker, and this guy. Would be a great class and we could finally move on from the will he or won't he concerning Royce.

McCabe? no, forgot his name, guard from illinois.

MN did recruit Cody out of high school, but not very hard and we we're never a factor in his recruitment. It is yet to be determined if they will go hard after him this time. they have questions about his athleticism and if we brought him in with Eliason and Walker plus Trevor, he would need to play the 3 and they don't know if he can do that. Noreen is in a similiar position with regard to MN.

Gotta be Ben Brust -- 6'2" pt guard from the Chicago burbs. Chose Iowa over Northwestern, Butler, Southern Illinois, Davidson, and Bradley.

Is Iowa going to have enough players to field a team? Honestly, this is bad...

They had a decent (not great) 2010 recruiting class. Larson just got out of his LOI, it sounds like Brust is also hedging, Zach McCabe says he will stay with Iowa, and Roy Marble Jr. was a stretch in terms of D-I talent and he will likely stay.

Plus, their best player during the Big Ten season Aaron Fuller just announced today that he is transferring. Rumor is point guard Cully Payne could follow suit.

They will once again be terrible, barring some remarkable late spring recruiting.

Welcome to the Big Time coach McCaffery!

Fuller is also leaving. May be old news, but I don't have enough time to keep up with their departures.

Too bad McCabe isn't backing out at Iowa..he'd be a nice fit at the U. 6'6" 200lbs small forward with a great shot. Oh well, it appears Tubby wants to see if he can have the biggest team in country. RSIII, Iverson, Eliason and Walker... holy crap that's a bunch big dudes.....

Not old news (official yesterday), but I did include that info in my post yesterday. Read carefully:)

Looks like Brust is gone now too.

At this point I hope McCaffery saves the scholarships for the next class rather than fill in from what's left. Of course there is always the possibility the two that asked for their release return to the fold.
