I checked coming into the game Cobb had 615 yds and rushed for 188, so he's at 803 yds ,with 3 to play. Even though 2 of 3 teams still on our schedule have stout defenses I like his chances to get 1000.
Cobb reminds me a little bit of MB3. Not the fastest, not the biggest, but runs hard & gets the job done.
Obviously we don't want Cobb to go down but I feel good about Kirkwood & Williams as back-ups. A legit big-back, with talent like Williams can really be special once he matures.
With all due respect to Mr. Cobb, he is no Mr. Barber III.
But how many stars did he have on Rivals?
He's not like MB3, we won't see another back quite like that in our lifetimes. He's more like Tellis Redmond I would say; very solid player who gets the tough yards. My favorite player of all time was, repeat was, Maroney until I thought he started to dog it his last year here. I was running errands before the game started and listening to the pre-game and they had Maroney on there and he was still talking about getting "back into the league" even though he hasn't played since '10. Interesting that with MB3 going fourth round and Maroney first MB3 probably out earned him five to one; Marion got paid big time by the Cowboys after his rookie year contract was up. Maroney hasn't been back to see a game in The Bank and he sounds like he's really kind of just drifting through life.
Cobb is a Terry Jackson clone who transferred out when he wasn't getting any carries after Maroney and MB111 took over I believe Jackson ran for a 1000 yards the year before.,
He got 1300 yards and I agree with the comparison.
Kirkwood is built to get 3 yards out of nothing.
He doesn't know what to do with the gaping holes the O-line is creating. It calls for a different kind of back.
Why is that?
not counting the nfl, I'd take Maroney over Barber every day. Barber was a great player but he was far from a "once in a lifetime" player. You must have not paid attention when MB3 was here or watched him in the NFL. He ran like a man possessed, he pass blocked like an all conference OL man, he caught the ball like a WR and was pure class as a human being. Most of all, he had a will to win and toughness that you just can't teach as well as an uncanny ability to get into the end zone. I was truly priviledged to watch him play for the Gophers. The total package that he was may never be duplicated in my lifetime.
