...Chuck Amato

Let the record show you heard it here first.

Chuck Amato had a very Mason-like tenure at NC State (besides 1 Gator Bowl Appearance). That hiring would make me puke.

If not Brewster, Philip Fulmer. Unless UW falls flat on its face the rest of 2009, then he'll be in Madison.

I am sure that was just a flame but I will take the bait.
Brewster has done more to try and change the culture of losing at this university than any other coach in recent memory.
What do you people think Brewster is doing so wrong that some other coach would do better.

Be Specific!!
Give first hand accounts of things you have seen Brewster do that somehow don't meet with your standards.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

Will be Brew (offense will be much better next year)

... TIM BREWSTER.

But if the Gophers collapse down the streach, finnish 5-7, are under .500 next year, and Maturi decides to replace our HC, Brewster will still end up with a better gig than what Chuck Amato has right now.

If you can't win in the ACC, you aren't fit to be a positions coach in the Big Ten.

Turner Gill:

Recognizable name; good recruiter; "tremendous" character guy; proven quick success at one of, if not the hardest-to-win programs in the country (Buffalo); connections in Texas, the Midwest, and now the Northeast; up-and-comer with actual experience; etc. The only reason he didn't get the Nebraska job is because they were looking for a defensive-minded coach (and, as it turned out, probably could not have gone wrong with Gill or Pelini). I've always hoped that Minnesota would be lucky enough to hire Gill (if the powers that be decide that Brewster isn't getting it done).

I agree that Amato is very Mason-like.

I have not been crazy over some of the things not accomplished on the field so far, but can some of you just have a little more patience with everything instead of jostling around for new...whatever every time something does not appear to go through.

Brew and crew has been working very hard on all areas of the football team and it does take time to gel, implement and allow the players to mature.

"Gopher Nation let's ride" doesn't meet my standards.

Tony Dungy. I would love Gill as well.

God, I wish people would just leave this one alone. Dungy isn't an option... never, ever, EVER and bringing him up as one is playing on every simple minded follower of this program as an excuse to cut bait every time someone brings up the coaching situation. We all love Dungy, he's done our school proud with his successes, he's a distinguished alum. He's still not going to coach college football here.

I can't decide what I think is funnier - the fact that this thread even exists, or that others have indulged in speculating who the coach will be in 2011, as if we have any idea who would be available even if the situation arises. Why even play the rest of 2009 and 2010?

FWIW - turnover is the biggest problem the program has right now. Nothing will get us back on track like changing our whole staff.

2011 is a long way from now, so who knows.

If it's not Brewster, I hope it's someone under the age of 50. You don't turn a program around by hiring an old has been like Philip Fulmer.

Forget Amato. Those sunglasses and pants he wore scream 70's. How about Chris Voelz? That choice would energize people around here :cool03:

I would love to be patient, but Brew is lost. I'm still hoping he turns it around and I will support the team on the field regardless, but good coaches win a little more quickly. Good coaches do not go 1-11, and then claw to get back to achieving the records of their predecessors' teams.

I didn't like Mason either, but Brew has been a disaster. You can scream "But he's a great recruiter" and "wait until he has all of his players in place" until you turn blue in the face, but coaching the talent is a very real concern. Brew has shown no ability to coach the players he inherited or the players he has recruited. The swinging door of coordinators has not helped, but coordinators do not typically leave a head coach they like. Where there is smoke there is fire and Brew's smoke has been hidden by the new stadium excitement for too long.

Based on what I've seen in the Brewster years, we're going backwards. The offense is worse than when Brewster started. The defense is modestly better, but will continually get destroyed by good teams because it is a "too much cushion/read-and-react" defense run by a guy who has no ability to make adjustments (Cosgrove).

I'll keep cheering for the team regardless of the coaching situation. However, when someone brings up the possibility of a new coach, I feel like I'm free to mention a person whom I think would be a great fit. I'm sorry for thinking that waiting for two and a half years to see progress (or, at the very least, get back to the level the program was at when Brewster took over) means I need a "little more patience with everything."

members of this board continue to

amaze me with their stupidity.

Koolaid - you are now number 1 with a bullet.

Does all of this mean that you've gotten past your "crooked M" fixation?

Tim Brewster, unless he keeps having turnover in his staff, as it's already been mentioned, staff turnover, is one of our biggest problems. I think Brew gets a least three years with this years staff. I do think that 2011 is where Maturi's patience runs out. Brewster will have proved himself or be gone.

Good coaches do not go 1-11, and then claw to get back to achieving the records of their predecessors' teams.

There is so much anecdotal evidence to prove that you are so thoroughly and completely wrong that it's not even worth discussing how wrong you are.

Brew has shown no ability to coach the players he inherited or the players he has recruited.

Same song, second verse. Wrong again.

Oh, you mean like every coordinator ever in the history of football who left for a head coaching position or better coordinator job?

Strike three, you're out. Better luck next at-bat.

If you are sticking to this quote I would love to debate you on how I think Kirk Ferentz is an awesome coach and you can take the side that doesn't think he is good.

First years at Iowa:

1999: 1-11
2000: 3-9
2001: 7-5
2002: 11-2

and in 95' and 96' the hawks finished inside the top 25 so the program has decent records close to his arrival

this site needs the doll.

I like Gill as well.

I supported Brew all through the first two years. But this year has been a huge downer. He is proving that he is not very bright and his b.s. is wearing very thin. Listen to him and every other word is "really" or "tremendous" or "great." How was the blocking on that 3rd down play? "It was really great." Can't you just once say, "It was great"????
