Our coaches gave up on the game right before halftime so I'm giving up on the game day thread. Kill's issue is problematic but really nothing we can do about that right now. That'll be addressed over the next couple of months he'll either manage his condition better or he'll be done. The bigger issue to me is watching the games. It sucks. I honestly in all of my 47 years have never seen a staff that seems completely uninterested in winning games. They don't play to win. I'm not sure what they're playing to do but it's certainly not playing to win. Our kids looked to me that they were willing to compete as hard as they could today. Between the play calling on O and the three man pass rush on D which killed us, absolutely killed us, we could have been manned by any D3 staff in America and we would have had a better chance to win today than Kill, Limegrover, Claeys, et al gave us. Academic improvement and accountability for the program and recruiting hard is all great; but it's low hanging fruit that this staff has plucked. If they can't game plan and game day coach then the game day experiences for fans, players; everyone is going to continue to suck. Today didn't need to suck but Limegrover, Claeys, et al made sure it did. It's a f*cking disaster.

It seems like they play for first downs. If we can gain 4 yards on 1st down, 3 on 2nd, 3 on 3rd, then, SUCCESS!! But they have no concept of the bigger picture.

A lot of confusion from the sideline as well, we need a general down on the field. Not sure why Claeys can't be down there.

Stick that lip out a little farther...

Yes, I'm sure they aren't playing to win games... Why would they ever want to win?

3rd and long has always killed us = pass defense has really gone down hill...

That's exactly my point I don't know why they don't coach to win and maybe in their pea brains they're doing something to try and win the games, but it's impossible I think for 99% of the world to see exactly what that is. I feel bad for the players I thought they showed guts today and had the rug pulled out from underneath them by a really bad game day coaching staff.

I wasn't aware that he wasn't "managing" his condition well. Now that you've put Kill on notice, I'm guessing that he starts "managing" his condition better.

Or maybe their gameplan is just different than what you would do? There are teams that continuously pound the run and are successful with it. They don't need to take 50 yard shots down the field every series. They have been successful coaching at every level they've been at, so I am definitely not going to doubt our coaches and say they aren't "playing for the win."

A gameplan can only go so far if you don't have the talent to compete with upper tier D-1 teams...

He has seizures on game days so I guess logic would tell us he has to manage his emotions or medications or something else better on game days or game weekends or he'll be done. It's as plain as the nose on your face.

I think threy call the plays they've practiced. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. But it seems people want them to start slinging it around. Honestly I don't think they call that game because they haven't practiced it or haven't practiced it well - not because they don't want to win.

We obviously aren't as talented as Michigan but our kids came out to compete today. If you can't see that the coaching was bad today and didn't give our kids the best chance to win as possible, then you deserve to watch this garbage.

All I know is it was a 2 possession game into the 4th quarter, much better than what most people would have thought being on the road at Michigan.

The coaching staff doesn't trust the players to do much. Hard to win that way imo.

What's plain is your incessant whining...
Go ahead, keep whining, everybody loves it.

So you're really saying Akron is better then us? It's plenty of teams with less talent that beat teams with more all the time... it's time to stop using this excuse...

Moral victory alert detected!!

I will keep it up, thanks. I like to get up on a Saturday and put my Gophers gear on a watch a good ball game, win or lose. We have no shot to win with how the games shake out, it's like our staff is using the games as glorified practices vs. opportunties to make positive impressions. Two weeks in a row on National TV we've laid huge eggs.

No I'm not, but Michigan also played much better today than they did vs Akron. People just don't seem to give coaches time to do anything. Kill is just now starting to get his recruits that could make an impact.

I don't consider moral victories as meaning anything, but I think we had a legitimate chance to win or keep it within one score for most of the game. Overall, this game wasn't too disappointing till the last few minutes. Did you people actually expect a win?

You're being dense. Of course the coaches want to win. His point is that the coaches' philosophy seems to be conservative and highly risk-adverse. They seem to think if they just wait in the bushes the other team will shoot themselves in the foot and our mighty gophers will hoist the Jug. Can you not see that? Have you never honestly heard the expression "play to win"?

When you're an underdog like the gophers were today, you have to take some chances (Hoton's onside kick against Iowa, for example) to get that defining win. Playing as conservative as the team did today was nonsense. Michigan is a better team with better athletes, but we had our first signs of legitimate offensive competence this game. It's likely Michigan still wins if you take those chances, but it gives us more opportunities to hit that game changing play.

Happy with some of the aspects of our offense today, but that's stuff that should have been clicking coming into the season. Our timid decision making was uninspiring.

And some coaches have different definitions of playing to win. Teams like Wisconsin and Stanford play it fairly conservatively and are very successful. Trying to avoid turnovers and playing conservatively is one strategy to staying in and winning games, which is what our coaches seem to do. Everyone wants the Texas A&M offense - throw it deep and score in 2 minute drives, but there is a reason Kill and his staff have been successful. Keep doing what works.

Are you comparing us to Wisconsin and Stanford????

No, he's trying to say that even when behind by two scores, Wisconsin and Stanford still play conservatively.

Which is bull*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#.

Would you rather try to go up-tempo, all out passing, completely out of our style and end up with 5 or 6 turnovers a game?
