Coaching Change Updates

Beaty is an amazing recruiter. He will do well. This is our second lower-level (non OC/DC) coach to take a head coaching gig in the past 2-3 years (Polian at Nevada being the other).

It is impossible for a position coach to do well as a head coach. Just ask the resident personnel experts here.

They'll probably do better than our previous OC, TCO, at Texas Tceh. Our current OC has reportedly interviewed at Tulsa for the HC job.

So you are saying you don't like it when poster's on here act like experts about almost every topic? I agree.

Not sure they can pry him out of Knoxville, but boy, if I were Michigan I would sure be making a hard, hard push for Butch Jones, as UT when he took over is right about where Michigan is at now- a name-brand helmet school pretty much dead and floating face up. Now? Everything is roses and the sky is the limit. He's an excellent coach, a fantastic recruiter (two top 10 classes in a row), and is just relentlessly positive, which is exactly what a dispirited and disenchanted fanbase like Michigan's could use. He's not a Michigan man, but he was born and raised in Saugutuck, went to Ferris State in Big Rapids and led Central Michigan to three bowl wins in his three seasons there.

In my opinion he would be an absolute slam dunk of a hire, that is if he's willing to leave Tennessee.

I believe they said that about Tim Brewster.

Hearing Aranda may stay at WI as DC. Wish he would go to Oregon State. We'll beat 'em up next year regardless.

Figured I'd throw this up since it's relevant and hasn't been mentioned yet.

UNLV recently hired local Vegas HS coach Tony Sanchez as their new Head Coach. Sanchez was the HC at local private catholic school Bishop Gorman.

Gorman is quite the program, Sanchez led them to the State title in all 6 of his seasons, compiling a whopping 85-5 record. I think they've been nationally ranked for much of that time as well. I don't know much about the MSP HS football scene but maybe an apt comparison would be Cretin?

Gorman has MONEY, and lots of it. The Sanchez hire has more to do with Sanchez's fund-raising connections than it does his coaching acumen I would think. Under the Sanchez watch, he secured major donations to the school, including that of Lorenzo Fertitta, UFC CEO and Chairman. He's expected to bring a lot of those connections with him. With the help of Sanchez and his deep pocket donors, Gorman was able to build a state-of-the-art 41,324 SQFT Training Facility.

Interesting gamble (pardon the pun) by UNLV. Hey, if you can't win when you've got the mob backing you, you never will....

I watch them regularly on Fridays after our local games. They would destroy any MN team with the talent they have. Las Vegas Sun did a great article on the specifics as to what UNLV's needs are. Gorman will be crowned National Champs this year. Their facilities (which you've referenced) are better than UNLV's. Fertitta owns the Station Casinos as well. His kids went to Gorman and there was some concern if he would be as gracious to UNLV as he was to BG. Coach Sanchez speaks regularly at National Clinics. His contract is $500k. Base salary of $250k, $125k for media appearances, and $125 k for public appearances. He needs to be successful with fundraising and needs to get upgrades / new facilities to help in recruiting. If you've never seen Gorman's football facilities, I'd highly suggest you take a tour and view the gallery here: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2012/aug/06/gorman-fertitta-athletic-training-las-vegas/
The Fertitta kid at CB for Gorman is committed to Notre Dame. TE, Alize Jones, going to UCLA, Snoop Dog's kid is a 4 star WR with offers from all over the country. AZ Wildcat QB, Solomon, is BG alumn.

Michigan is no longer a destination job. Coaches salaries are closer now than ever. What can Michigan offer? Dis-function. Rich Rod, and even Brady Hoke have shown they can coach at other schools. I think the problem at Michigan is they are living in the past. Clinging to the Michigan Man. That Culture is a draw back. If you don't coach like Bo, played for Bo, or coached with Bo then we don't want you. It isn't your coaching ability see Rich Rod, its the culture. If you take that job, be ready to hear that's not the way we do it around here. We tried that, and it does not work. Point two, Michigan football is a two back, pro set. Running ball. Throwing the ball from play action. The game is now trending toward Oregon, and 4-5 receiver look, and throwing it 35-40 times to set up the run. They made that leap with Rich Rod, and didn't like it, went to Hoke who couldn't change it. He had neither a Michigan offensive line, nor a stable of running backs. This is not the job you think it is.

We'll see who they end up hiring. They have gobs of money ... and that talks. If they swing and miss this time, it's going to be a big downward spiral, but I do think they are going to pull out the stops and go for a big *Harbaugh* name

So Greg Schiano was the token interview?

Wow, I'm surprised he'd be willing to accept this job:

It's all to set up Riley failing at Nebraska, and Tressel as HC/Pelini as DC coming from YSU in a package deal.

He was born in Youngstown and went to Ohio State. Make sense being he wants to be a HC and work right away. Coaches can't afford to be out of the game for any time. They have to keep connections to the game and recruiting.

Houston isn't even one of the top programs in its own state, let alone one of the top programs in the country!

Houston may be attractive because Art Briles was able to use it as a steppingstone to Baylor.

Hope they land him- that combined with the Ducks visiting another QB prospect in Hawaii may help sway Seth to stay in-state?

If they land Frost, I'm guessing Matt Lubick (Son of former CSU HC, Sonny Lubick) goes with him as his OC. Matt is currently WR's coach and Passing game Coordinator at Oregon. Would be a great 2 for 1 deal in getting them in Fort Collins.
