Beat UNC and we'll be ranked.
Yeah I like the way the schedule sets up this year.

3-0 = ranked
After 3 weeks

After oct 21
5-2 or better = ranked

After Nov 11
7-3 or better = ranked

After nov 24
8-4 or better = ranked

So #40 in the preseason and #45 after week 1. Not a big change, I can't blame anyone for ranking us higher after squeaking out a win against a bad Nebraska team.

Maybe...depends on how UNC shows against Appy State too. But if there is enough movement ahead of us by them, it's a better than 50/50 chance we are ranked at 3-0.

5-2 or better = ranked
That would mean that we are ranked after UNC plus beat NW and Louisiana (most likely scenario) to get to 5-0, but then lose to both Michigan and iowa. Most likely unranked.
After Nov 11
7-3 or better = ranked
I don't think that being unranked and then going 2-1 vs. MSU (home), Illinois (home) and Purdue (road) gets us back in the rankings.
After nov 24
8-4 or better = ranked
1-1 vs tOSU and wisconsin would leave us out of the rankings unless it was a last game win vs. wisconsin and they are ranked.

I just don't see 4 losses, so ranked most of the year.

Lot of dinks in AP too...Gophs 35

Um, how did that happen??? I must be thinking of GSUs next to wins and the 3rd being against the Badgers!

Agree that’s contingent on UNC beating app state

Disagree. Would have zero bad losses and be 5-2

You have to remember a ranking has nothing to do with how good a team is. It has to do with #of losses, quality wins, and bad losses.

Coaches should not have a poll. Shut it down, go do your job. You shouldn’t be wasting time watching film of any team that you don’t play or who don’t show up in game tapes playing those future opponents. And thus, you don’t (and shouldn’t!) have a valid perspective to be able to rank nationally.

AP poll I respect, but no longer “matters”.

Only poll that matters is the poll of the CFP selection committee.

I can blame people for ranking us lower than Clemson. Squeaking out a win against Nebraska has to be more impressive than getting thumped by Duke, right?

Duke was still projected by most to be a pretty good team, I don't think anyone knows what the situation with Nebraska is this year (even moreso after Thursday's game). Depending on how they do this year (especially on offense) the win might look a bit better, hard to say after week 1.

I honestly think Nebraska is a much improved team. Next weekend could be a chance to prove that.

I think we could be ranked by next week honestly. There’s a decent chance for the high-teens/20s to drop their games. EMU is also a quality team. It’s evident our D is stellar but our O is holding us back from moving up. If the O flashes, Nebby plays well, and there’s chaos with the other fringe teams we could be ranked. Ultimately it doesn’t matter as the UNC match up will solidify us being ranked or not. Wouldn’t mind a highly touted non-con matchup in week 3 though.

Too early to tell for the Gophers based on history. I agree, win the next couple games and we'll be ranked.

Just win, the rest sorts itself out

Paranoia reigns today; if you think the HCs actually fill out the form you must believe in the Easter Bunny.
The HC tosses it to one of the managers and tells him to fill it out.
