Get a clue, you guys. Every decision the U and the City of Minneapolis have made about tailgating and drinking near the Gophers Stadium is a direct result of the input and demands from the local neighborhood groups which represent everyone who lives or owns property anywhere near the U. They are the people who are putting up most of the roadblocks preventing Gopher fans from enjoying themselves before and after the games.
This is undoubtedly true.
Quite frankly the U needs to stop listening to these groups. It's pathetic. A VERY small population of non student residents shouldn't have a great amount of input into U policies.
Put it to a "neighborhood" vote, including of course the student populations that live in the U "neighborhood", A simple Yes/No ballot with a piece of mail as proof of residence.
Question: Should the U block off streets, promote a pre-football gameday experience for registered students, and allow various festivities to occur before and after football games at TCF bank stadium?
Tell me even an typically voting uninspired student body wouldn't show up for that one and rule as a majority over the 60 year old curmudgeons that decided it was a good idea to live next to a major university and at the same time be oblivious to the behavior of 18-23 year olds.
