Gophers coach Tracy Claeys said he’s close to hiring an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, but said no announcement will be made until after Minnesota plays Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl on Monday.

“Shortly after the bowl, we’ll have something to stay about it,” Claeys said Wednesday.

Claeys said he wanted the focus on the Gophers (5-7) playing the Chippewas (7-5) at Ford Field in Detroit.

“We’ll get it done around the holidays, but I’m just not going to do anything right now to take away from the team and what we are doing in the bowl game and that,” Claeys said.

Go Gophers!!

Not sure why making an announcement now would be a major distraction of take anything away from the bowl prep, but based on his comments it would certainly seem like they have their guy/guys lined up.

My guess is he wants the player focused on the game and not how they're going to fit with the new coaches as well as keeping fans and team alike focused on the game.

We're only talking a few days .....

Maybe the new guy is coaching this weekend as well......

Possible name

Somebody mentioned a rumor that Joe Tripodi was a possibility as o-line coach. He has ties to these guys from Northern Illinois. Northern Illinois plays Boise today...so they'd be done with their season.

I can't tell if I should sleep better tonight now knowing they have been working on this and have people lined up. Or if I should be stressed about who it is...

Rumor has it that our new OC will be Leon Sandcastle. Haven't heard of that guy much.

Thanks for the update...

Go Gophers!!

The CMU OC and O Line coach if we lose to them.

I really hope people aren't expecting a big name.

Agree. I am guessing both guys will be names most of the fan base has never heard of.

Limegrover's firing cut the number of current college OCs I can name in half. (Kiffen)

Whoever it is I am betting they are coming from a Zone blocking scheme. That would align with TC stating that they are keeping the majority of the O the same, just adding that element.
