Claeys pronounced program as “very close” to competing for BT titles every year

Don't you think a team that is good enough to compete for the West most years is bound to win a few conference titles? I think if the Gophers are good enough to make the Big 10 title game every few years, they'll probably get by tOSU or Michigan one of those years. It takes a pretty good team to win the West. Granted, tOSU and Michigan will likely be better teams, decent teams beat really good teams quite often. Heck, we played tOSU tough last year in Ohio State and should have beaten Michigan. We weren't very good either.

No I don't. The last 2 teams to win the west were Iowa (see Rose Bowl embarrassment), and Wisconsin (59-0). Frankly I don't think a team from the west will win the Big Ten for a while.

WARNING: RANT TO FOLLOW:

I go into every season with the same goals for the team: play competitive games and don't suck. Sadly, there have been a lot of years that wasn't the case. At my age, I may be more realistic, or less needy, but just give me a competitive team and play in a decent bowl game. Division Titles or Conference titles are icing on the cake.

END OF RANT. we now return to regular programming.

As a Badger fan who grew up in the bad years, this is still my goal each year. Anything else is gravy.

Secondly, I was under the impression that Claeys had a two year contract. If that is the case, he might as well go "all out*," as he has nothing to lose. With a new AD, his employment situation has to be shaky (as is probably the case for all except Little Richie).

*I was going to say "balls out" but didn't want that image. Sorry, about that.

So, you're the one.

The Gophers are on the verge of something B1G!

That's 95% of all Minnesotans, regardless of the sport.....you just gotta ignore them

If a Gopher coach expresses optimism, he's criticized for being unrealistic. If a Gopher Coach does not express optimism, he's criticized for not supporting the team.

Being the Gopher FB coach is the ultimate no-win scenario.

I'm being dead serious here - this is not sarcasm. I don't know why anyone would want to coach a team where even the supposedly most dedicated or invested fans rip their own program at the drop of a hat.

Again - being serious - the Gophers could win the Division, and the "fans" will find something to complain about. The Gophers could win the Conference, and the "fans" will find something to complain about. The Gophers could win the freakin' National Title, and I am absolutely convinced that at least some "fans" would still find something to complain about.

I think Claeys is referring to the western division and I can't disagree. Yes Wisconsin is difficult but so was Nebraska for many more years and the Gophers have seemed to get over that ( I hope ). The schedule usually determines how teams will do if evenly matched so this year doesn't seem particularly good for the Gophers as they play at Nebraska and Wisconsin for winning the western division. Ten wins is a possibility. Did I just type that?

Let the Claeys vs. Mason debate begin!

I took it to mean B1G. They should now be in contention for West titles late in every year, so by virtue of that, in contention for B1G title. I agree 10 wins this year is very doable.

I really don't believe we care what you think. Keep your thoughts on buckyville with the rest of the skunks.

What is the definition of competing for titles?

Within 1 game? That would mean winning the west multiple times.

Within 2 games? If that is the case we have competed 2 of the last 3 years....
So I would guess he means within one game. Which means a couple of west titles, which I'll take.

SON, you may be right, but I'd love to this scenario tested.

What Claeys says doesn't matter. The choice of CFO will be the deciding factor on how well we do.

Word has it the supply closet has been out of those black onyx uniball pens for a couple days now.

It's just ****ing over.... program is dead. Athletic department in chaos.

I have sure-fire solution to this problem, increase season ticket prices, I mean, donations.

We are not going to contend for the b1g west this year. We would have to turn around and beat Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin and northwestern. If we go 2-2 against those 4 that is an improvement. Penn State isn't a guarantee.

TAW makes some very good points. Isn't being a troll. So why do you have to be a complete asshat or ass hat. I really wish you would loose your Internet connection in your mom's basement.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of watching the games this year.

It's a funny thing that we were one half away from winning the Big Ten West two years ago...you know, since it's such an impossibility and all.

And ONE season away from beating 3 MAC teams CSU Purdon't and Illinois.

What's your point? Your implication is that we cannot contend for the Big Ten West title, which is demonstrably false as proven from recent history.

I see you were finally able to coordinate the proper sentence structure for " ass hat" Now go back into your Badger hole.

You're right, anything is possible. We have almost 50-years of proof that a team can compete for a B1G title. What fun!

We weren't talking about the conference, we were talking about the division. Get better at trolling.

Your point was 2 years ago we almost won the west. My point is more recently we finished 5th. Why don't we start consistently finish8ng in the top 3 before we start talk about division titles.

You don't have to finish in the top 3 consistently to win the division. You have to win the most games in the division in one year.

What do you think this team will do against the top four?
