Citrus Bowl STUDENT Travel Package NOW available. Very affordable

Gotta say, I am extremely disappointed with how this played out. I neglected to read the fine print on the original announcement - 2014 season ticket holders were given first priority. I'm sorry, but that's horribly unfair. No one knew at the beginning of the season this would be a requirement, so it essentially locks out a ton of people. I was all ready at 11:30am to buy two tickets until I came across that bit of information.

I did get single tickets for Homecoming, so I could order on the 16th. But that doesn't seem realistic anymore. What a mess.

Disagree that its unfair. Nothing wrong with rewarding the folks that were there supporting the team all year.

This my friend is your first lesson in being a Gopher fan, or any college sports fan for that matter. Get on the bus and stay on the bus, enjoy the ride through the bumps and savor the victories. The fans who stick with this team through it all should be rewarded. Next year get your season tickets or possibly miss out on the Rose Bowl, or write letter to Gov Dayton

Never said I didn't support them. I have watched almost every game in the last four years at school (and went to several). I don't have money to buy season tickets every year. They are only rewarding the people with more money =/

Biggest game in over 50 years.

They offered eighty tickets?

Meh....

As others have said (and many are learning with the new donation requirements), the only loyalty that matters in college football is money. Those who pay the most get access to everything first, as it should be.

No. No they are not. The U is rewarding the students and fans who have chosen to spend money on tickets for the entire season. You, and many other fans, have chosen to spend your money differently - which is perfectly fine. As you said, you have supported the team. But in sports, the only other way you can reward the fans that pay for your product in person outside of winning more games is giving them more access to stuff. Period.

Well, learning some hard lessons in college sports today I guess.

At least read the entire conversation before condemning my complaints to those of a 2-year old. I feel as though I was a little more legitimate than that. If anything, it was just my ignorance about how college sports work.

Well, learning some hard lessons in college sports today I guess.

You are learning some hard lessons in LIFE. Fair, in the way you use it, is not a word that applies in the real world. Put your big boy pants on, save your money so you can buy season tickets next year, and you can buy tickets to next years bowl game. That is how fair works in real life.

I don't believe I would have got to where I am right now without understanding how life works. The way things have turned out so far, it seems fair is the perfect word for it. So that argument does not work. I really, honestly did not expect the promotion to work like this. I am pretty sure the package was available to any student after a point last year, so I wouldn't have expected this quick of a sell-out. It is okay to be disappointed with the choices the program makes and I don't believe it's appropriate to dismiss anyone who calls them out on that.

Anyways, it wouldn't apply next year. I won't be a student anymore. Given how supportive people are on here with going to the game, it would be a real bummer not to be able to go because of this. There isn't really another chance for probably many years (travel expenses won't be $300 for me again, that's for sure).

Here's the thing though. These past few bowl trips have included season tickets for the following year. Just think of paying as for the bowl trip, and getting next year's season tickets for FREE. Then there will be no worries about getting left out. Also, I have a very hard time believing any student couldn't have found any ticket for more than $5-10 for any given week.

FWIW, sounds like students on the waiting list are likely going to be able to make the trip. Just sounds like the U has to get their ducks in a row with hotels and whatnot, although that remains to be seen how many more spots they will fill up.

I don't know if the complimentary tickets counted, actually. My friend got the free student tickets last year and wasn't able to buy exactly at noon today. Not sure if it was because of the website getting hammered, though.

Putting on my old man hat here, since I will be 50 next month.

If you are still in college you probably don't know how life really works. You think you do but you will see some crazy sh*t over the next 50+ years.

I'm not sure I even know how life works yet.

Haha, fair enough! I certainly haven't seen it all. But I like to think I have a little bit of a grasp at how this thing works.

At this point, I chalk it up to a bitter learning experience and hope for more travel packages come Dec 16th.

The U better do whatever it takes to get every student to the bowl game that's willing to pay $299. It's a huge brick in growing a fanbase. I would hate to for the U to lose prospective lifelong fans and ticket buyers due to not being organized.

Question. Are they relying on donated tickets for the students? If they are I would donate two to them.

Amazing deal. Myself and 7 buddies rented a van and road tripped it when we were seniors in 2006 to the infamous Insight Bowl Texas Tech debacle. We still talk about that trip as of this day. Stopped in Vegas for New Year's Eve on the way back. One of the funnest weeks of all our lives.

I believe there is an option to buy tickets on behalf of students through Gophersports, but don't quote me on that.

And in terms of the wait list hopefully the U is simply lining up a back up hotel that accommodate overflow students who cannot fit in the first hotel.

Sorry if I came off like a richard. Wasn't my intent. I merely was saying that if there's limited space available I think that distributing them to season ticket holders first was a perfectly fair way to do it.

At any rate I hope they come up with more spots and you can make the trip. It'll be a blast.

True that.

A friend said when they logged in it only showed 80 spots total and they were all sold already. The waitlist is going to be long

I highly doubt they only had 80 spots available initially, and don't take offense, but I don't think your friend knows what they are talking about or is misinterpreting what they think they know or thought they saw. They chartered 200 students to last year's game bowl game in Houston. Why in the world do some think they would thus only bring 80 or even plan for only 80, even initially, for this year's game in Orlando? That makes no sense and I don't believe this 80 number some have been throwing around as if it were fact.

Again, I know some on GH simply just enjoy taking cheap shots at the U marketing/ticket sale group (rightly or wrongly), but a reasonable, unbiased person without a personal bone to pick would give them more credit than some are here. They know what they are doing. There is simply just an extremely high demanding which in turn requires more patience by all involved. Just my two cents on the topic.

A mess? This isn't a mess in the least. I know others have already given you the business, so not going to go much deeper than simply saying "Really man? You think you were treated unfairly in the process? Seriously?" Allotting scarce/limited tickets, etc. based on priority/affinity/loyalty (financial or otherwise) is how virtually any major college or pro team operates when it comes to a situation of a scarcity of tickets/space/etc. Which is exactly what you have with the 2015 Citrus Bowl. Comparing it to the process last year for 2014 Houston is not correct in the least and it is not an apples to apples comparison at all, as there was unfortunately NOT a scarcity of tickets for either Minnesota or Syracuse last year. At this point, the 2015 Citrus Bowl is looking likely to be a sell out or close to one and thus there IS a scarcity of tickets this year for both Minnesota and Missouri student fans and non-student fans alike.

So a ticket prioritization/affinity based process is rightly used, is not unique to the U of M here, and is how any fair university or pro sports team would allocate scare tickets to fans (students or non-students) wanting to purchase them.

That said, I do get your initial disappoint here and can feel for you a little bit. But only so much. I just don't think you are being treated unfairly by anyone. And as you said, I too hope you are able to come by a student ticket for the bowl game if there are any left after those students who did in fact purchase 2014 football season tickets have all had their opportunity to purchase or not.

Cheers and best of luck! Ski-U-Mah!

Just got the following email, looks like they'll be adding more buses. I wonder what the demand looks like/how many they're planning on adding:

University of Minnesota Students,

Thank you for your interest in the student travel package for the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. We are in the process of adding additional buses for the road trip. On Monday, December 15th we will be calling everyone on the wait list to inform you if your priority has been selected to purchase a travel package. If your wait list priority has been selected, payment for the travel package must be provided no later than Tuesday, December 16th at 12:00pm. If payment is not received by that time, your reservation will be forfeited.

For any other questions, please call the Gopher Sales & Service Department at 1-800-U-GOPHER. The Gopher Sales & Service Department is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nax91, you seem like a great Gopher fan and I hope you get to the game. But Let's put it like this: Say you were a season ticket holder who made the time to make it to every game, only to be denied a bowl game ticket by a fellow student who bought tickets to "a few games." Chances are you would feel more raw than you do now.

Sounds somewhat promising. Will be waiting anxiously in-between studying for finals...

Yes, that is probably true!
