Cignetti Extended At IU - 8 Yrs, $93M

Penn State's #1 target out. Is it Matt Rhule? I think that's a good bet. Rhule was my #1 hope when Fleck was hired, Fleck was #2 on my list. I think it would be great if Rhule left Nebraska. Hopefully, Fleck wouldn't leave MN for Nebraska. Lol.

Yeah, has to be Rhule now. Even more of a distraction for tomorrow night's game for Nebby. Get'er done, Fleck. No cnance he goes to Nebby. Zero. I think they are better off going after someone like the Memphis HC, but they're probably too proud to do so.

Come on. There's an all-star coach with a national championship down at UCF that makes a lot of sense to me!

"i don't know how we're losing all this money"

writes a contract for a fully guaranteed salary that would be top 10 in the NFL despite the fact that that league generates 20x as much money.

How much is the University of Indiana funding the deal as opposed to say, Mark Cuban?

Still would come out of the athletic departments budget, with all these schools claiming they’re in debt and can’t handle the revenue sharing with players

Can't Cuban donate to the program for an offset?

Can't Cuban donate to the program for an offset?
Tbh, he could yea but I think it’s the flip.

IU has seen the massive uptick in donations with Cig at the helm and was willing to eat say an annual 5mil increase as they think he directly generates more in donations from multiple big donors (Cuban being one).

That said, the instant he starts losing or if the shine comes off or the donors decide not to dump it in, you’re on the hook for 11.5mil a year and the full of his contract which is a massive part of just how we got into this mess. Just ask Wisconsin or any other team that isn’t a helmet school. Michigan, OSU, USC, Bama, Texas, etc can afford to do this. IU is going to fuck their whole department if this doesn’t work out.

The issue I have is the talking out of both sides of their mouths saying they’re so hamstrung financially they’re charging students $229 to subsidize athletics but then pay exorbitant contract amounts out and can’t figure out why the budget won’t balance

Dan Barreiro went to IU and he knew Mr Knight. Hails from Gary wrong side of the tracks combo platter of gored ox.

On the bright side, Indiana will have several million fewer $$ per year to spend on players.

People still don’t think they are dumping more money into their football program than us?
So ..... I have a question.

All this money that's dumping into ... [checks notes] Indiana ... football ....... where has it been all these years?

These guys just win Powerball last year?

Even if you can hand waive away that the money is suddenly here ... that that's a thing to do, in 2025 ..... this is the program you're loading into??

Bold: So ... Cig did some nice things at ... [let me look here, ah yes] James Madison.

Granted, he couldn't get past the Bison in 2019 and 2021, when JMU was still FCS. But he did have a couple nice seasons the first two of JMU moving up to FBS.

And then, he's at Indiana.

That ... gets you excited?

That's the thing that gets your wallet open?

Or maybe you meant only just this year, based on the success of 2024 ... assuming it wasn't some wild flash in the pan?

Not trying to be a prick.

Just that, none of this makes any sense to me.

2024 Indiana basically went 1-1 in the only two games that mattered. They beat Michigan at home, a team that would two weeks later beat Ohio State, and they lost at Ohio State. Then lost in the first round to Notre Dame.

2025 Indiana, has basically gone 1-0 in games that matter. Win at Oregon was nice. Illinois is proving to be a fringe top 25 team, not a special game. I suppose you could argue win at Iowa was also important.

So ..... I have a question.

Good question, obviously everything changed with NIL. I wonder if the basketball program going to shit (not gopher level shit, but by Hoosier standards) had anything to do with it.

Indiana may be crazy, but they're not stupid.

They have finance people in the athletic department. So does the league office.

They're clearly projecting out revenue, to be able to do this. Whether it's Big Ten TV money, or big donations they have at least soft commitments on, or this Private Equity money coming in ...
