Marcus Marshall, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Class AAA state champion St. Paul Johnson, received a visit from Minnesota assistant coach Vince Taylor Wednesday. Marshall, who is considered one of the top shooters in the Class of 2012, talked to GopherHole.com Saturday about the latest on his recruitment.

If his handle is up to par as hinted by the recruiting angle, and he can defend, then sounds like we have a solid prospect. If not working out as intended, still a good role player taking up spot up duties. We will need one sooner or later.

Any first-hand takes on his skills other than shooting? His athletic abilities? Thanks in advance.

What happened to demarquise johnson and javonte hawkins, both had us in their top 4 at one point, and it sounds like hawkins is blowing up, drawing comparisons to rip hamilton

Marcus is a good athlete in fact does most things well. That being said, his step back jumper is definitely is go to move and he hits a very high percentage of shots as well.

If he has the summer a lot of people expect (he's one of the focal points of his 43hoops team) he'll attract a lot more attention.

Good luck to him.

Per rivals:

Johnson has medium interest in MN, as well as many other schools, and high interest in none.

Hawkins also has medium interest in MN with high interest in Michigan, OSU, WVU, and USC.

This is just based on the rivals college choices list.

I suppose that Tubby wants to make sure he isn't missing on anyone or doesn't end up scrambling if others turn them down.

I'm sure Johnson is just as high of a priority as he was before. Don't see why interest in Marshall would change anything with Johnson.

im a little more interested in hawkins now. From reggie rankin's twitter, and the lebron james classic or whatever its called, hawkins supposedly showed NBA range, athleticism, and defend like a bulldog

I don't think you jump to conclusions about a coach checking out a local prospect, it's not like they extended an offer.

Thanks for the take. Just one more question. Can he handle with both hands?

Right hand dominant but can use the left. He's not quick like Nolen but probably a better hand at this stage of his career than Al had as a junior in hs.
