Chris Monter Q&A: Sheridan's Jarrell Crayton Is Latest Juco Player On Gopher Radar

Jarrell Crayton, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound sophomore forward from Sheridan (Wyom.) College, is the latest junior college player who has attracted the attention of Minnesota. The Golden Gophers will watch Crayton Friday as they face Trinidad State in the Region 9 Tournament at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. GopherHole.com caught with up Sheridan head coach Steve Smiley to learn the latest on his standout’s recruitment.

dont really understand why we would be intrested... hes not really a 3 and his size will not work out too well in the big ten at the 4 and 5 like his coach says

How many 3's do we need? We have Rodney, Oto, and Hollins that will be splitting time at the 3 next year already. He doesn't sound like a 4 at all. Even if he were a 4, we already have Ralph, Colton, Mbakwe, Mo, and Eliason splitting time at the 4 and 5. We need a point guard, plain and simple!... or a stud like DeAndre Daniels.

Agreed. Never can have too many guards (as witnessed this year).

Not exactly a ringing endorsement from his coach. Maybe he is a ball-line defense type of guy?

These are the kinds of things that raise red flags. If when doing an interview with an obvious Gopher supporter the guy's own coach says he isn't sure if Jarrell is a BT quality player, then I have no idea what Tubby is seeing. Usually the biggest backer of a player is the coach, especially at the JC ranks. Not only does he question whether he can play in the BT, but looking at his offer list so do other current major conference coaches.

Andre Ingram ;official visit to Minnesota for early April

Can Can is a Turkish native, he was going to play HS ball in Florida but went back to Turkey for personal reasons. You can Google his name and find some box scores from him playing in Turkey. Not sure what his story is anymore, I am thinking he won’t be playing in the US this fall.

Minnesota's search for depth at power forward has taken them to Butler Community College where 6-foot-7 235 pound Andre Ingram resides. Ingram, who played at Minnesota Transitions in high school, averaged 13.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and a block a game this past season. He has set an official visit to Minnesota for early April.

I don't like this. We've usually been burned with the late pickups. If the dude's a legit player, pick him up, but some of these desperation moves mean we end up with subpar talent who we're stuck with. I'd rather we bank this scholly (and others that may open up) and start recruiting 2012 hard.

Ingram; seems like he would add some rebounding and 5 more fouls... Kind of like Colt

"Ingram scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to record his seventh double-double of the season, but his first in five games as foul trouble has kept him on the bench instead of on the floor. Many of his points came on second chance put backs after getting the offensive rebound.
