Joe Coleman, a 6-foot-3 senior wing from Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins, has committed to Minnesota. He is the first verbal for the Gophers. Coleman visited homestate Minnesota two weeks ago and Santa Clara last weekend. He had originally planned to make a trip to Iowa State, but canceled the visit. GopherHole.com caught up with Hopkins head coach Ken Novak to learn more about Coleman’s decision.

Wow, great news. Hopefully this will be a very strong recruiting class. Most of us expected this, but it is great to see it happen!

Love it. This kid is a diamond in the rough.

Coleman in...Hollins??

What does this mean for Hollins chances? As they are both considered SG's, would Hollins be less likely to commit knowing that his playing time might be limited...or am I reading too far into this.

I would love to grab both.

From what I have read on this board, I believe Hollins can play the 1 or the 2. Not as much of a true PG as Tharpe is, but apparently capable of paying the 1.

Maybe Hollins could help fill the void of a shooter while giving the team another option at point guard if/when needed.

Joe,

Very happy to have you as a Gopher - thanks for staying in state.

IMO Joe could have waited and had several other options - spots always open up for top players. Glad he committed early to the Gophers.

This is what the Gophers needed to get that '11 class going in the right direction. Hopefully they can get another commit soon to put some pressure on their top targets to decide early.

Certainly possible to land both. Coleman plays 2/3 and Hollins plays 1/2.

Glad to see that Joe is a Gopher, I have a feeling that a lot of schools felt this would be the end result of his recruitment and decided their time/assets would best be spent elsewhere.

Wish we had had room for him though I doubt we would have gotten him to Ames over Minnesota, but I would have loved to see him in a Cyclone uniform. Best of luck Joe, hope you have a great career.

Thanks. Classy move by ISU to not string Joe along if there was no spot for him.

Tell the Mayor the border is closed for exports, top Minnesota talent stays in Minnesota.

FYI - thought ISU was crazy to hire Fred. But, he has assembled a good group of coaches and players. Best of luck.
