Austin Keel, a 6-foot-2 ½, 180-pound guard senior shooting guard from Winter Park (FL) High, will get a visit from Minnesota assistant coach Vince Taylor Thursday. Keel is regarded as one of Florida’s top shooters. GopherHole.com recently caught up with Keel to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Keel averaged 14 points and made 69 three-pointers as a junior. However, he decided to transfer from Winter Springs to Class 6A state champion Winter Park, the team that knocked them out in the region quarterfinals.

The transfer will give Winter Park one of the country’s top backcourts. Austin Rivers is considered by many to be the country’s top senior and Brett Comer, who was a Orlando Sentinel third team all-area point guard as a junior, has committed to Florida Atlantic.

Chris - Thanks for the Keel interview. Keel certainly looks like an intriguing prospect. How would you compare Keel to Oglesby? It would appear that both are excellent shooters. Is Keel the back-up if Oglesby goes elsewhere or do the Gophers view them as equally talented and would take whoever commits first? I was impressed with the Holton video out on you tube so a combination of Keel and Holton would certainly be interesting.
