Andre Hollins, a 6-foot-2 guard from Memphis (TN) White Station, made his official visit to Minnesota this weekend. Hollins has a strong spring and summer for the Memphis Magic AAU program. He also might have been my favorite player to watch this summer, due to his outstanding play and friendly smile whenever I saw him on the road this summer. GopherHole.com had a chance to catch up with HollinsAndre Hollins, who has made three of his five planned visits.

Chris - Excellent article as always. The most interesting comment for me was "The transition to the point guard and to make my teammates better." There has been a lot of discussion about the Gophers needing a point guard rather than another 2 guard. It appears that Andre will be playing more point guard during his senior year.

Yeah that surprised me. This is good news- that we have an alternative for Tharpe high on the radar screen.

His high school team had Joe Jackson, who was a scoring point who averaged 29.3 points and finished his career with 3,451 career points, fourth best in state history. With the Memphis signee gone, Hollins will have to play more at the point guard spot. His Memphis Magic AAU team had several talented smaller guards, so he played mostly at the "2" spot. I still think of him more as a shooting guard, but if he can play both guard positions, that makes him even more valuable. It's hard to predict his recruitment, since he still has two visits left, but I'd love to see him sign with the Gophers.

Hey Chris. Are the Gophers expecting any more visits over the next few weeks?

I have been impressed with Andre's highlight reel and I realize that doesn't always tell the full story so hearing Chris' endorsement has me even more interested in Hollins. Hollins is certainly keeping his thoughts to himself so one of the five teams is certainly going to add a very talented player in the next few weeks.
