Chip: When (not if) Gophers test COVID-19-positive, time to listen to doctors and not loudest voices

(disclaimer - I am NOT predicting this will happen and I do NOT want it to happen- just making a point.)

For all the people saying it's no big deal - if Tanner Morgan tests positive the week of the Badger game and can't play because he has to go into isolation - then it will suddenly become a very big deal.
I don't think anyone is saying it wouldn't be a big deal. This is the side of the issue where I have no problem looking at it as the same as an injury.

If TM hurt his ankle the game before an was out for the Badgers, it would be just as big of deal.

His ankle is not contagious .

This is the real issue when it comes to sports. Is a college or professional athlete likely to die or even end up hospitalized? No. But it is very contagious and once one member of the team has it, it's likely several more will. Even if not sick, those players will be removed from action for at least 14 days. You will see teams with multiple players out, in some cases perhaps to the point they must forfeit.

Also what happens if a 70 year old coach gets it and dies? Will they just press on? If it's the special teams coach of the Lions, probably. If it's Bill Belichick? Maybe not.
I sort of got at this in post #57. If players get sick and/or get hospitalized things will change. I think the same happens if it is a coach or staff.

Wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t see anyone purposefully infecting themselves to avoid that scenario but I do predict some of the concerned athletes and staff to use stepped up precautions within and without the building. I also predict some percentage aren’t concerned and will socialize normally and pick it up, probably long before the Wisconsin game...if that game even occurs.

A 70 year old coach should be in a pope mobile around the unwashed and unmasked, probably even under normal circumstances if we want to approach zero risk of infectious disease.

I heard from a friend today, that has a coworker who’s cousin is on the team, that 8 players and 2 coaches have tested positive for the virus. I hope it’s not true.

If true (hoping for mild cases and quick recoveries), it was going to happen at some point, now at least they get to test if their procedures work in containing spread.

It's gonna be every team, with the virus flaring up all over the country, and domestic travel going on as usual. People from the west and south will be coming to MN on business, pleasure, 4th of July, etc. People won't wear masks, because they're bastards. ETC

Every team, every athletic dept, is going to have positive cases.

The good news is, statistically, 100% of the athletes should either be asymptomatic or mild cases and fully recover.

Thank you Simone.

Currently positive or in the past?

Currently positive but asymptomatic. The Gopher Gridiron Radio podcast confirmed positive tests for players and staff on their most recent episode as well.
