per Chip:

It wasn’t official until Sunday, but in reality, the Gophers had zero chance of earning a bid to the Rose Bowl after losing to Wisconsin in the regular-season finale to tumble to No. 18 in the rankings.

The consolation prize after that disappointment should be appealing to the Gophers and their fans: A spot on the Outback Bowl against Auburn.

There are many positives in this reward for a 10-2 season. It’s a New Year’s Day game in Tampa, Florida, against a quality SEC opponent with national recognition.

This serves as another measuring stick opportunity for P.J. Fleck’s program.

Go Gophers!!

Will the Gophers still be in the Top 25, following the bowl game?
LOL - I think you are assuming they lose, but even if they do they would finish at 10-3 and they probably would finish in the top 25 somewhere.

There will be no more AP/Coach’s/CFP tanking changes for the 2019-2020 season after any of the bowl games. That was stated during the CFP selection show yesterday. That is why all the rankings are now labeled as “final ranking” when you look at them.

How teams do in their bowl games will affect how they’ll be evaluated if they’re ranked worthy in the pre-season poll for next season.

Pretty sure AP and Coaches poll has one more version after bowls.

The AP and Coaches will release a final ranking on Jan 14th.
