per the Chicago Tribune:

Unlike the NFL, college football has no policy for reporting injuries.

So the Big Ten essentially has 14 different policies, one for each coach, and even those 14 sometimes change based on who's injured, who's left on the schedule and who's asking the question.

It's an interesting time to explore this, given the carnage that has taken place as teams enter the first week of full-on Big Ten play.

Kill is among the Big Ten's most forthcoming when it comes to dispensing injury updates. The others: Nebraska's Mike Riley, Purdue's Darrell Hazell, Ohio State's Urban Meyer and Indiana's Kevin Wilson.

"It's my opinion that if everybody watching on TV and everybody in the stadium sees a guy get hurt, you might as well say he got hurt," Riley said. "It won't be a secret, anyway."
