Cheerleaders Not Cleveland St. Get Punished

I imagine if some football teams got busy with some public nudity, hazing and etc they'd probably have a chance of a hammer thrown at them.

Just some random googling:

The newspaper reports that "members of the squad reportedly performed “basket tosses” — a gymnastics routine that requires throwing a person in the air — while either topless or bottomless and within view of some coaches, the university’s internal investigation into the team’s conduct found."

The press release says team members were directed by others to to perform “lewd chants and wear outfits that did not include underwear” during a cheer event in Tennessee. According to Kentucky's press release, the investigation involved interviews with more than 60 students, coaches and administrators in the cheerleading program.

That doesn't sounds fairly bad...

For those looking context:

Kentucky fires Jomo Thompson, cheer team coaches after nudity, hazing investigation

University of Kentucky officials announced Monday the firing of four coaches of the nationally recognized cheerleading team and the resignation of a high-level university attorney after squad members took part in hazing activities, alcohol use and public nudity.

The firings came after a three-month internal investigation that found that the coaching staff failed to provide oversight of the team during off-campus events.

Head coach Jomo Thompson and assistant coaches Ben Head, Spencer Clan and Kelsey LaCroix were released by the university on Monday. T. Lynn Williamson, a university lawyer who also served for four decades as an administrative adviser to the cheerleading squad, retired as a result of the investigation, a press release stated.

Members of the squad reportedly performed “basket tosses” — a gymnastics routine that requires throwing a person in the air — while either topless or bottomless and within view of some coaches at a team retreat at Lake Cumberland, the university’s internal investigation found.

Coaches failed to confiscate alcohol brought by students to the retreat and coaches allowed cheerleading alumni to bring boats and alcohol to the same retreat, the release stated. Some squad members became so intoxicated they required medical treatment, the release stated.

At a separate cheerleading camp in Tennessee, some members of the team were directed by others to perform “lewd chants and wear outfits that did not include underwear,” the release stated.

Go Gophers!!

University just fired the entire staff after doing their own investigation. Not sure the NCAA has even gotten involved.

Kentucky's cheerleading team has won 24 titles in tl35 years. It was shutdown due to alcohol, hazing, and public nudity issues.

The NCAA is really serious! I can't wait for them to shutdown football and basketball teams for escorts, booze at recruiting parties, and so forth.
So they are all transferring to UW - Madison?

Cheerleading is gone at many Minnesota high schools. I always forget how big of a deal it is down South.

Like they don't have ... any cheerleaders?
None whatsoever at my kid's high school...at least in the traditional sense. There are a couple of designated seniors who decide themes, costumes, etc. for the student body and there are a few outgoing kids who lead the student section in mostly hilarious, good-natured cheers. As a fan and a parent, I would say it is way more entertaining than watching a typical squad of co-eds...and much less creepy, too.

Pretty demeaning for the gals who wanted to do something positive for the school and end up being pressured to do some stupid things that I'm sure they regret. The advisors in this situation have ever reason be fired in my opinion for their stupidity. Hopefully they won't appeal their stupidity.

It was hosted at a 4-H camp the irony.

Hopefully not. Although wouldn't doubt if some pervert recorded it. Pretty demeaning to the gals.
Girls were topless, boys were bottomless.

It was a catching drill.

Back in the 70's (when I was in high school). Being a cheerleader was "where it's at". The girls that didn't make the cheerleading squad typically were on the dance line. The dance team back then is nothing like the dance teams now.

Yeah the dance team activity has taken off.

Having said all that when I was in high school there really wasn't much in the way of the sort of stereotypical stratification of types of people and their activities. I guess I was fortunate but if someone was a cheerleader... that's just what they did, just like some other kid did speech or whatever.

Auburn was certainly well represented in the Outback Bowl stands with the beauties sitting in front of their band.

The Cheer Team group of Southern Belles certainly had a lot of smiles and moves...with the pom poms at least.
