Lazy, unfair analysis, Part 3: Minnesota has been fantastic in bowls over the last several years, and PJ Fleck – one dud against Bowling Green aside – has been great in non-conference games.

• At #26, the game falls into the "Nothing Better to Do" tier
• The last time this list was made in 2019, the Music City Bowl between Miss St and Louisville was ranked #26. Anyone remember the outcome of that legendary tilt?
• The Outback Bowl was ranked #4 in 2019
• The Cheez-It Bowl (former Guaranteed Rate Bowl) between Air Force and Wash St. was ranked #5 in 2019, but only because the previous year's tilt had featured 9 interceptions in one of the worst played bowl games in history -- so there was a certain morbid curiosity around the game.

This is one guy's take and he doesn't even explain his "criteria".

I'd argue you have the CFP and then everything else.

All bowl games are brand marketing events to sell tickets, bring in revenue for the host site and more importantly, get their product front and center. The "big ones" that matter are the New Year's Six - Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Peach, Rose and Sugar, because they are part of the CFP.

This is a well-written article that explains how Minnesota ended up where they did. The "tier" is dictated by the Big Ten, most likely to spread their "product" far and wide and to get as much exposure to different bowls as they can. The last two times we benefitted. This time we didn't.

Please stop thinking bowl selection will ever be fair.

Why do people still get upset about bowl selection ignoring standings or head to head wins?
