6. P.J. Fleck (41), Minnesota

35-23 (.449) in five seasons: In his early 40s, Fleck has already coached 110 games and been to a New Year's Six bowl (Western Michigan, 2016). Make fun all you want of "Row the Boat", Fleck's motivational techniques get results. Twice in five seasons, Minnesota as finished in the top two in the Big Ten West under Fleck. Peel away the gimmicks, and Fleck's teams always play physical. Last year's nine-win season was only the program's fourth since 1905. 2021 ranking: 6

Go Gophers!!

Interesting:
Matt Campbell: 42-34 (overall record at ISU)
Billy Napier: 40-12 (overall record at Louisiana)
Josh Heupel: 7-6 (overall record at Tennessee)
PJ Fleck: 35-23 (overall record at The "U") <- edited

TIL that 35-23 equals a .449 winning percentage.

Interesting.

Nevermind, you pulled the numbers from the article.

Yeah...and I screwed up verifying the records on another site, and 35-23 is indeed Fleck's overall record at The "U" (including bowl games).

But his win % is 60.3% not 44.9% as the article states.

I saw that too. 1st thought was maybe that's his conference winning %. I'm still working up the energy to see if that's true.

I did find this though on Gophersports.com:

Fleck’s .603 win percentage is third best among the 11 Minnesota coaches with at least 45 games under their helm behind only Henry L. Williams (.786, 1900-21) and Bernie Bierman (.716, 1932-41, ‘45-50).

Rodney Dangerfield is still alive.

Any list that has an 8-13 Florida State coach listed as a "top ten coach under 45" is suspect in my book.
Yup. They produced a messiah head coach at UCF that was a mythical champion with a 13-0 record. 😄

There probably is only 12 coaches under 45.
Not sure how that disagrees with anything I said

Fleck is probably a top 10 coach under 45.
He is probably a top 40 coach in the nation. He is probably a little overrated in some lists too
