per CBS:

One of the 13 Iowa football players hospitalized in 2011 after an offseason workout has filed a lawsuit against the school.

William Lowe, a reserve cornerback for the Hawkeyes, says the team was negligent in "developing and implementing a dangerous improper training program." He alleges that coaches and trainers failed to properly supervise him during the now-infamous workout on Jan. 20, 2011 and failed to offer care after he and others reported first pain and symptoms.

Lowe and 12 others were diagnosed with exertional rhabdomyolysis, the result of muscles breaking down and releasing proteins into the bloodstream, after checking into the hospital on Jan. 24, 2011. After the "rhabdo" outbreak, Iowa formed an investigative committee that made recommendations to avoid the issue in the future.

Go Gophers!!

It always amazed me how easily this was swept under the rug down there. Had it happened here the Strib/Pioneer press/Daily/Fox9/KFAN/etc etc would have skewered the U and anyone involved.
Ferentz gets an extension, and no coaches were even fired for a pretty serious incident.

They hushed it up pretty well until this lawsuit. I wonder if any other former players will come out of the woodwork with accusations.

The personnel involved should be fired. The trainers and/or team physician ought to be reprimanded and their respective boards should see if license suspension is adequate punishment.

I suspect this player will see a nice settlement depending on any lasting injuries. There can also be compensation for mental anguish etc depending on the state law even if no physical disability or deformation.

This is basic medicine, basic coaching. Rhabdo should always be at the top of any competent trainer's or team physicians mind after a much heavier than typical workout with those symptoms. What was the s and c coach thinking?
