Can we all agree now that Tubby simply didn't work out at Minnesota

I think those who vehemently defend Tubby on this board have lost most, if not all, of their ammunition. It's beginning to sound like sad, worn-out excuses at this point. Tubby is losing game after game after game after game and simply isn't doing what he is paid to do: Elevate the program. In fact, he's sunk the program right back to where it was before he took over. He's a stubborn, stubborn man who doesn't seem to give a crap about recruiting. And player development?-- you can forget about that. As I stated previously, I think it's time we unite as University of Minnesota supporters and demand a change. I for one cannot sit through another horrific season like the previous two (and if not for a miracle run in the tournament, three). It bothers me to see three former Gopher players excelling at a high level at other schools and an incoming recruiting class with zero, YES ZERO top 150 prospects. I can't stand another game of Tubby's stagnated offense and hockey-style subs (who does that!!!??). I'm done. 100% done. I will no longer attend games, donate to the University or buy basketball merchandise until this man is FIRED. I don't like seeing someone make millions and millions of dollars simply not do their job.

No one..NO one, NO ONE cares what you think. Except of course, those of us who would one day like to see a competitive basketball program here.

Fine...as long as that means you no longer contribute to this board.

I hope that means you won't post anymore.

See ya' later. We're really going to miss your contirbutions to the board!

What a bunch of rubes for reading the thread and then trashing the guy for his opinion. He is right. And, you nitwits are clearly over your head when it comes to judgement and common sense. Get a life.

Nope.

What a sh*tty thread title, btw. Why didn't you just call it what it really is - "My post where I bitch about Tubby's recruiting some more."

Also, no one cares what you think about anything, ever. It gets thrown around a lot here, but in this instance, it's really true. Literally no one values anything you have ever posted on here. Have you ever noticed that? Also, no one cares if you ever go to the games or support the Gophers again. We don't need fans like you. As others have said, please stop posting.

True, I'm certainly not one of you that has cranium so deeply indertd in rectum that you can't even begin to see that Tubby Smith has failed at what he was hired to do here.

Oh really? Since you were privy to the negotiations, please tell us - exactly what was it that Tubby was hired to do here? I'll try to get my head out from being "indertd in rectum" so I can hear.

Why don't you go with him and take Whathavewedone and minngg with you?

I hope you're prepared to sit through 3-4 more horrific seasons if Tubby is fired. You think everything would just magically turn around by next season? Are you kidding me? I guess we really are in an age of instant gratification.

My problem with this whole argument in the first place is that none of you Tubby detractors have the patience to see what happens when a Tubby team goes a full season with a healthy team and minimal off-the-court drama. Is Tubby to blame for some of that? Sure. But I'm waiting to see what happens next year, and hoping that FOR ONCE we don't lose a top player to injury, transfer, etc. Why is it that so many people expect this young, inexperienced team to randomly play like a contender in a matter of a few days? We have to let our young guys develop.

A huge disappointment without question. Simply has been unable to recruit the kinds of players necessary to bring this program back to the level of the 1972, 1982, and 1997 squads.

Musselman turned this program around in his 1st year.

To be fair, didn't Tubby also turn it around in his first year with 20 wins. Get off the Tubby firing soap box. Nothing is going to happen to any coach until an AD is hired. Speculation on anything is dumb until a leader is hired.

Sorry, but I have to ask a question here. What do you think he was hired to do? I ask because I'm pretty sure what we've seen the last two years isn't it.

A. I'm not exactly sure. Anyone on this board who says that they do know is either Tubby Smith, Joel Maturi, a close associate of either, or a liar.

B. I'm waiting to see a season without severe injury before I pass judgment.

Fair enough. For what it's worth, I'm in the same boat as of now. But I have to also add this: My support is starting to wane.

People are trashing the guy because he claims to be a big Gophers fan, but says he's giving up. If you give up when things go bad, then you're not a fan in my book.

I'm a Gophers fan no matter who the coach is or what our record is. You're saying he's just stating his opinion, yet you then jump on people who also state their opinion. Kinda hypocritical, don't you think?

Musselman turned this program around in his 1st year.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the price of rice in China, but the 1971-72 squad had Behagen, Winfield, Turner, and Brewer, all of whom were upperclassmen and none of whom except Brewer were there the year before. The level of talent on that squared compared to the 2007-08 squad is so disparate that the comparison is absurd. Also, that outstanding 1971-72 squad got drilled in the first round of the NCAAs. Further, Musselman accumulated at least 100 rules violations during his 4-year tenure. It's easy to win when you cheat. He also apparently didn't cheat well enough, since they went to one NCAA Tournament and played one NCAA Tournament game in his entire tenure where, as mentioned, they got drilled.

Sort of like a Matt Capps fastball right down the middle but I'm not proud. The coaches and players on the 1972 and the 1997 teams were involved in two of the three biggest scandals the Big 10 has ever witnessed. Musselman and Clem both got us on probation shortly after those seasons. Reasonable to assume they didn't just cheat one year? The 1982 squad was great and did it, we presume, the right way. However, within a short time Dutcher recruited Mitch Lee and was gone shortly after because of the third scandal. Doesn't excuse Tubby's record or the game last night, but the hill here is steeper than a lot of folks think--especially when you basically lose one or two of your best players year after year.

I think what most tend to forget, is that Tubby has recruited some very good talent, and those recruits have either turn their back on the program, or were not able to handle Tubby's discipline or were not capable of playing in his system. They have since left. The top talent, or the best way to put it, the top talent that have the leadership skills to lead this team in tight and tough situations, have unfortunately gotten hurt the past couple of years. This has left teams that have to fight for everything they get to win.
To be fair, the team from last year after Nolan went down, lacked leadership, Nolan was that man. Some had to step up an assume that role like Mbakwe did last year, but he lacked the point guard that could help support his game. We only had one threat in Trevor when Hoff became the point. The upperclassmen that are left on this team this year are not those leaders either, I think Tubby knows that, was hoping to have others around in that role so people like Rodney and Ralph were not those guys. They were suppose to be role players, not leaders. Other players like Devoe, White, and Trevor were to serve in those areas, especially if they were all here this year. Now what we have been left with for this season are some very good and capable freshman who are learning on the run, and believe me folks, this will serve us more than anyone can say in the future. Sorry for the rant.
