or tell me how to disable it - really annoying everytime I go to main page it starts over again

Install an Adsweeper. I'm running it on Google Chrome and have never even seen the ad.

Annoying isn't it, also uses up alot of network resources.

Shame on them for trying to make a few bucks to help keep this great site free.

We should have a solution in place by the end of the day that the sound will be automatically muted on the video. This partnership gave us a unique ability to offer video highlights of Gopher football and basketball games to our community.

Honestly...

The sound is the major problem, the video is great. Thanks for working that out.

Having video highlights is a great idea. I just wish you'd find a partner that doesn't use Flash as it can wreak havoc with the loading of GopherHole. My solution is to use a Flash blocker, which prevents the loading of any Flash based ads. If you do some research, you'll find that Flash blockers are one of the most popular web browser plug-ins and can affectively make it look like your Flash ads are doing better than they are. Also, Flash doesn't play well on most smart phones, so you're losing impressions there too.

It's poorly executed. Sites which have video advertisements that play automatically come across as unprofessional. And with the huge banner ad to the right, the site presents an intrusive Sprint gauntlet to its users.

The solution is simple, take the video advertisement down. Or in the very least, make certain it does not play automatically. Don't think it is "unique" because it isn't/

In case Sprint doesn't get it, I will now officially never use your service.

As a temporary fix, I've found if I click on the ad, the video will stop. It will open a popup, but you can just close it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. If an ad annoys me, the chances of me shopping there or purchasing their service/product is greatly diminished.

That said, I already got rid of crappy Sprint years ago.

I took all the Duracell batteries out of my electronics a put them down the garbage disposal.

Now none of my *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# works. But at least I showed em'.

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't computers have a mute button?

It's not the sound. It's the slow response time to load the page. If I have to install/downlaod something, change my browser or operating system, I'll probably choose the easier option and not visit the site, like most consumers would. This is the type of thing that makes competitive sites more intriguing.

You slow down anyone's internet experience because of an ad and it's bad for traffic.

Pewter, much of the slow response is the fact that this will likely go down as the busiest day in GopherHole history. We are on pace for over 160,000 hits.

As we said above, we are working on a solution with the ad partner. We rely on donations to run this site. This appears to be the first time you have had a complaint and are already threatening to leave? Wow, we are doing our best as an all volunteer site and hope to have this issue resolved soon.

The response time of the site returns to normal levels after the video plays. It drains system resources. The problem is the ad plays after almost every action taken on this site. Once per visit (which as an option in the admin setup of an ad) wouldn't be a big deal but it's killing my response time with almost every action I take on this site.

We will forward this idea to our partner and see if we can set it up that way.

Any follow up on this? I'm still having a very difficult time on the forum page, having resorted to clicking on the main message boards page and then clicking on the last post. I don't like having to click to not install a flash player everytime.
