It's obvious that Betts is being paid off by Gavin Newsome to sabotage the program from within. First he crushed Jamison Battle's confidence and ran him off. Now he screwed us out of the start of our big push towards an NCAA bid.

(hey - I could be dead wrong. maybe Coyle is a brilliant salesman who can convince a top coach to take a job at a school where his program will always be second fiddle to football. but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.)

I’d welcome a coach from a mid major with open arms. They actually know how to coach kids in those programs

That's going to be the case at every P4 basketball program. If a college basketball head coach wants to be first fiddle at his school, he better coach in the Big East. Otherwise, he's taking a backseat to football everywhere else. Football will take most of the revenue share money and a lot of the NIL everywhere. If a college basketball coach is unwilling to work in those circumstances, he better find a new profession.

Betts is the inside mole The Administration is using to take down MBB. Why else would you go in the game at a critical juncture and pull that boner? That wasn't a brainfart. That was The Administration giving commands through the chip implant.

I just wanted to beat ETP to it.

I bet Coyle and Newsome had a good laugh about it over FaceTime last night while Coyle was working on Ben's new five year context extension.

Yeah, he latches onto this "At Minnesota the football coach has most access" and pretends it is profound or something and ignores that it is that way at the vast majority of D-1 schools (even basketball powers) and has always been that way. Football is the cash cow and the sport that gets the most eyes...basketball is really only relevant to most P5 fans in March. If you have a top program...after Bowl Season ends.

If the Gophers got an A+ coach and he won the Big Ten in Basketball and Fleck was going to the Pinstripe Bowl Fleck would still get more NIL because football will get more donations, requires more scholarships and football brings in more cash even in a bad year. If you want that to change, donate and have it go to basketball since DTA lets you choose. Funny how that gets left out of this...

Excuses like that are just people looking for reasons to think we can never be good. It is always something beyond the known that is holding us back. It is never just that we hired the wrong guy (like plenty of schools do...a lot...even multiple times in a row) its always some sort of block that is stopping us from reaching any sort of decent level. Saw it all the time on the Football board before Fleck and they all said the same things. Hell even two years ago SON was still talking about how Fleck had "no money in NIL so the team will never really be all that good" because Fleck made a comment about it (to goose donations...which it did) and local media types ran with how pathetic the NIL is for the U and that will be why Fleck leaves. Now all of a sudden because money is being donated Fleck is hoarding it and that will be why basketball fails. Next it will be something new...it always is.

He had a Coach P, that was kind of fired in Masonlike fashion. That Coach (P)itino probably has us in a decent spot. I supported his firing but be careful what you might have to go through post firing.

Crazy part is Pitino in a better spot and a better situation at this time. Hypothetically, he likely wouldn't even consider this job if you offered big $$$.

Coyle going to have to show some big bucks come March to a quality program builder.
