I know that he was a Preferred Walk-on and that he is a red-shirt freshman. Since he seems to be getting a good share of playing time, has Kill rewarded him with a scholarship?

He along with Zac Epping appear to be two good players we have gotten from the Wisconsin side of the border.

I think it's entirely possible that he will eventually earn a scholarship, I would expect that to come right before the season starts next year (if at all this season). What I mean is that we are so thin throughout our roster, it might be hard for us to move a kid from walkon to scholarship player (thus reducing our scholarships). He has definitely earned a scholarship and I think he'll get one eventually. But I think he will probably get one of a scholarship opens up next august (when we won't have time to fill the scholarship with anyone else). That isn't a slight to Botticelli, who will likely be a starter for us next year, it's just that our roster is so thin, we need as many scholarships as we can get.

Bob,if the kid deserves it he should get it, That promotes the walk-on pgm. Why would a kid walk on if he shows he is a big time player, but has to pay for 3 yrs. He has proven it's not a wasted pig in a poke!

We won't have any trouble with our scholarship numbers. Between graduation and transfers out, Kill will be able to scholarship guys like Botticelli and other PWO's.

I wouldn't expect many walk ons to get scholarships. Botticelli has a good chance next year, but I doubt anyone else gets one (unless they are a senior and one opens up late).

I believe your mistaken, scholarships can be awarded at any time, they count against your signing numbers of 25 a year, for the first 2 years, after that they only count against the 85 total scholarships. I believe the key phrase is " has been in the program for two years". I would look for an annoucement at pre fall camp.

I completely agree with what you are saying. I think Botticelli will eventually be on scholarship, I just am not 100% sure it's going be next season. He does deserve it, don't get me wrong, and I think if one opens up (scholarship DT leaves the program). However, I think for a team that is in such a difficult position as far as talent and "wasted scholarships" in the past, it is sometimes difficult to give a scholarship to walkon FR.

I personally don't think Botticelli waiting until after his SO season to be on scholarship would have a negative impact on the walk-on program. I think what hurts the walkon program is when some coaches pull scholarships and/or don't give those walkons as much of a chance to contribute.

I could certainly see him getting one and he does deserve it, I just think a program like ours needs to take some other things into consideration before those are the sole criteria.

And how do you know this?

I have found it quite interesting that nobody seems to be concerned that we presently have 22 verbals with several more offers outstandin, yet we have only 14 seniors on scholarships leaving (It maybe only 13 if Troy Stoudermire receives another year because of his injury). I estimate that we have one or two unfilled scholarships to add to the pool. Therefore, if all the 2012 verbals commit we could have a big problem. I am going to start a new string so we can discuss this as a separate topic.

I see Botticelli is listed at 274 pounds, but he doesn't look that big. He has been playing a lot. He had walk-on offers from us and the Badgers. Glad he took ours.

There is no need to speculate or start rumors, but expect a full recruiting class this season, with a couple of guys possibly even being added back to last year.

They currently have more scollys out there. If you look at last years roster vs this year there are some names missing. I figure he has six or more floating out there and more than likly some other players will leave because they were Brewster guys and aren't getting their ass kissed anymore.

Botticelli has been playing a lot and it has been on his dime. There are also a few others that have been active this year and will step up next year for the program. If Kill screws these guys he will ruin his walkon program. Also some of these guys will leave and get a scolly with a I-AA team or something. The walkon guys are getting a college education and generally are smarter than others, they will know if they are getting screwed over.

I feel Kill will give 3 or 4 guys scollies either in Jan or during fall ball. This guys are adding depth to the program at this time. Brewster did such a crappy job your going to need these guys to keep the program moving forward.
