Talked to him on fb. he said he's no longer a mn verbal and that hes a ILLINOIS verbal. He said they offer more.

maybe he was kidding. i said good luck and illinois and he replied yep and then something short like maybe "jk" after, BUT i cleared history already so i didnt see what he said but he prolly didnt say jk.

I really question Calvin's judgement.

First all of the off the field issues; now Illinois has more to offer than MN?

well he is still listed as a minnesota commit on scout, rivals and espn. no offense, but something tells me that he is not going to be breaking any news like that (switching his verbal) to some random person who friended him on facebook. if that is/was the case i can almost guarantee that it would be reported first by a legit source such as a recruiting website, local illinois sports media blog, etc.

anyways, you may have "chatted" with him on facebook and you may not have. no one here really knows if you are telling the truth. again, i am just saying that it is hard to consider you a legitimate source to break such news.

Seriously, is there anyone who thought Calvin Phillips would NOT decommit?

It does beg the question, though: what "more" did Illinois offer

If I was on facebook trying to find out what my friends are doing and somebody tried to start up a conversation with me who i do not know, i would probably tell them whatever it took just so they would not try it again. Dude...sorry to say but i think Calvin was just trying to say stop fanatic.

On the other hand i have no doubt that this guy could go in any direction -- however whatever school he goes to i think he wants to play right away.

hopefully he stays. im very excited for him. I just asked if he was to make sure because he has kept his recruitment very quiet.

Let's be honest, Heyo Carpenter had more receptions last year for the Gophers than Phillips had rushing yards. (he didn't play)

Until he gets his personal life in order, I'm not going to hold my breath about his commitment or the possibility he could be a potential game-breaker for the Gophers if he shows up.

I'm excited about the guys we've got on campus already. I think Devon Wright and Lamonte Edwards could be a very dangerous 1-2 punch in the Big Ten as they grow together. When Horton was at Wisconsin, they had the combo of Terrell Fletcher and Brent Moss who really remind me of these two guys. IF we can get anywhere near that kind of production, Gopher football will become the hot ticket we all believe it should be.

I'd be surprised if he plays college football anywhere but the U. I'd be more surprised if he plays college football. Last we heard joining the Army was the favorite. Also, I keep hearing about all his off the field problems. Unless there's something I missed he got caught with pot one time, nothing more???

I don't get it. Apparently you don't either.

Edit: Sorry, I better be more clear since you are simple. Are you claiming I misused the phrase "beg the question"? Because I did not. I claimed Calvin Phillips's statement (as related by the OP) begged the question. It did. Ooooohhhh.

If he is going to go to another school is Illinois really the main competition? I mean he's had the Illinois offer for a long time, I think he had the Illinois offer when he chose the gophers, so it's not like he verballed here to gain an offer from them.

i'm so excited to be here and calvin phillips is my dog he is my dog

Why are people chatting with high school kids on facebook? Unless you're his friend in the real world that is weird and creepy.

Says who? I wasn't aware an authoritative text on Facebook etiquette had been published. Let me know if there has.

I, for one, only "friend" and chat with people who I know personally, but isn't the whole point for a lot of people to get out and meet/chat with people they don't know in real life? How is meeting new people "weird and creepy"? Live and let live.

What's more difficult - getting a recruit to commit, or keeping him commited after a verbal? I'm beginning to think its the latter.

well if he couldn't even qualify academically to play for his h.s. team i'd say the chances of him getting into any college are anything but a lock.

I think it was Urban Meyer that said that when you get a verbal at least you know your in their top 4.
