Bye Week Schedule Out

Man the two bye weeks can suck for games. CBS gets Purdue.

Not sure big ten contract but in the old CBS SEC contract everyone was guaranteed one CBS game per year. Don’t think that’s true anymore.

Agree that the schedule isn’t good enough.
I think big ten expands by 2 or 6 teams before 2028.

I think they don’t do the middle of that. 20 and 24 are easy to schedule numbers.
21, 22, 23 suck for scheduling.

I think there are some games worth watching there: UCLA v. Washington, Nebraska v. USC, Rutgers v. Maryland, and maybe even Mich St v. Illinois.

I was travelling during the last bye week and enjoyed watching the games in my hotel room that Saturday (especially the Mich State upset of Iowa). Watching the other teams play is a lot less intense since I don't care as much about the outcome. I'm also relaxed enough to leave a game for a bit and come back later since I don't care so much if I miss something.

There will be two bye weeks again next year. Back to one in 2026. CFB is year to year with all the expansion going on.

I don't think it's 2 bye weeks that is the issue.

- The Big 10 has it's share of dregs regarding the teams themselves.

- At this point of the schedule along with the Top 2 format, it's just a matter of law of averages that several teams are completely eliminated as Championship game contenders. Nebraska & USC fading makes that game only relevant for Bowl eligibility. Wisconsin's fortunes make it seem like they are headed for a beatdown that Saturday. If the Big 10 West was still a thing than Illinois/Mich St would still have impact on the Big 10 race likely.

Presumably the Big 10 TV/Steaming partners were all in on a Division-less Top 2 Championship Game format. Well, this was an easily foreseen drawback at this point in the schedule.

There's going to be some games leading up to the Thanksgiving that are turkeys.

Yup. More games would matter a lot more with divisions.

They’re going to get better ratings for one game but worse ratings for 12.

At this point games that involve Oregon, Indiana, Ohio St & Penn St impact not only the Big 10 Championship but the CFP. Contests involving those teams can attract eyeballs well beyond their fanbases, regionally and nationally.

Unless it's a rivalry game involving the other 14, pretty much only followers of those teams (and gamblers) will be watching.

Could change if the right dominos fall and a team with 2 Big 10 losses currently, suddenly finds themselves with a chance to get to Indy.

yep. i'm sure when they built the schedule they thought USC-Nebraska would be nationally relevant, ditto for Oregon-WI.

Kind of how they've built it all year to have a couple of "premier" matchups either for history/rivalry or presumed national importance. Just you had a swath of teams look much worse than expected and they've hit on several weeks where they were supposed to be the headliners

One of the things they failed to realize is that Wisconsin benefitted from divisions more than anyone

Hell, one of their rose bowls they were 7-5
