By the halftime mark of the game, I thought a bowl game might be out of the question..

We are not good on offense and our Defense is really bad. (Especially our pass D as our pass rush doesn't exist and our DBs are turning their hips too quick and giving up the 2nd move the WR makes.

Some crucial decisions will need to be made this off-season. I think we have some talented players and Drake is going to be really good if developed correctly.

That said, we are not fun to watch this year.

We are a 4 to 5 win team.

I think we go up against wisconsin with both teams being 5-6

Yep, and probably the first losing season that Fleck and company have.
This team is not looking good at all.
Poor o-line play, poor secondary play, poor rushing, etc.

I hate saying it, but we are going up against two former offensive coordinators and our former quarterback. Both teams have athletes that are very similar. We lost our best coordinators and replaced them with guys that maybe eventually will be good but right now, they are not the right OC and DC to have in the Big ten.

Yeah this looks ugly, although football is clearly week to week and even quarter to quarter. We need a spark today. I hate to say it, but I probably do agree. No self respecting Power conference team should be starting anyone less than a Junior at QB this day and age. Nobody really playing well right now. We need Darius back bad.

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch this Gopher offense. Zero creativity. The play calling is inexcusable. We make Athan look like a Heisman candidate. This team stinks.

It's still 0-7. Maybe a little bit if an over reaction? It could be they judt need a little time to shake off the high of the Bye Week victory.
No, I've watched plenty of football to see what is going on. We are down 14-0 and the Gophers look awful in every phase of the game.

I completely get that. That said, on 4th down and inches we go from shotgun? When we don't get the first down, we start with the defense with only three defensive linemen and go prevent? With 9 seconds left in the first half and a chance to run a quick 5:00 to 7-yard out route to get some needed yards, we rushed the kicker onto the field?

We are getting out coached currently

I'm going to come here and say I was wrong. The changes the offensive coordinator made and PJ made in the second half Won this game for us.

I am fully apologizing to everyone, hats off to PJ and the OC for realizing we are a pass. First speed up offense team. Drake is the best quarterback we have had in my lifetime.

Some truly awful takes on this thread.

Try to be less knee-jerk, guys.
Tell me I wasn't correct. In the first half? We came out and played a completely different offensive scheme and on defense, we still missed tackles and players made mistakes, but we didn't simply fall back into three rushers and prevent defense on every big play. Changes were made at halftime that won us this game.

I would just say .. you probably didn't need to make a new thread. Make the posts in the game thread. Wait until after the game is actually over before making new threads?

I really value people who can come back from an extreme response with their head down and take ownership (especially on an anonymousmessage board), it's an uncommon trait that used to be more common among society. Hats off to you, man.

Every game has more than one half. C'mon, man. Let it play out before hitting the panic button.

You are correct. Hence why I came here and said I apologize as I was wrong. That said, can you at least acknowledge the fact that we were severely outcoached against Cal and severely outcouched in the first half? We made changes. That was awesome to see as we haven't seen that that often with coaching staffs in the past. Kudos to PJ.

I respect your opinion and your post about being wrong.

You (and many others, to be fair) seem to assume that any time a game isn't going well from the first kickoff it means the team is being out-coached. I disagree.

These are young athletes, and this Gopher team includes quite a few freshmen. They make mistakes. And games have an ebb and flow to them, a series of ups and downs.

Again, I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree that the coaching is bad. In fact, I came away from this game thinking that this team is extremely well-coached, especially considering their youth, their turnover on the o-line, and their injuries to key players.

Early in the game, Rutgers was destroying us on both lines of scrimmage. I don't think that's coaching, I think it's a matter of sometimes the other guy flat-out whips you. It's a tremendous credit to this team that they hung in there, fought back and won the game. Lindsey was lights out.

Coaching to me means teaching the boys how to play the game. The X's and O's, the technique.

Being a play caller and/or decision maker is really an entirely different thing. You can be good at one but not have skill in the other.

Probable why in the NFL the coordinators focus on game plans and play calling, and then every position has its own coach.

I think we are closer than we are farther apart. I think PJ has been a great coach. I agree 100% about the youth of our team. With that said, some of the decisions made by the coaching staff hurt us tremendously in the Cal game and the first half of this game. That said, great coaches realize that sometimes they have to make changes. We did coming out of half-time and it paid massive dividends.

That was a damn fun game to watch. Let's celebrate together and hope we learn and make changes that help us continue to win.

Drake is so fun to watch.

Play-calling is separate from execution.

You can call a perfect play, but if just one kid out of eleven screws up or gets beat, the play gets blown up.

It isn't always about play-calling.
