Buzz Williams...

He makes like 4.5 million. MN would have to offer like 6 million to get him. MN ain’t doing that.

Not sure how I feel about Buzz. If Coyle was smart he should have been stashing the other two million a year, for the last four years, that they would have needed to pay a real coach so this transition would be easier. I highly doubt he did that though.

Buzz does have a history of job hopping...6 years at Marquette, 5 years at VA tech, now in his 6th year at A&M.

I'm just very doubtful we'd actually pony up for him, but would be a great poach and his track record suggests he might be looking for his next challenge...

This board always loses its collective mind during coaching searches. Can't wait until it's in full effect.

College Athletics Valuations 2024
3. Texas A&M $1.26B evaluation $279M revenue
32. Minnesota $637M evaluation $149M revenue
Odds that the board will be disappointed by the hire and then delude themselves into thinking it will work are near 100%.

Just don't see SEC and B1G coaches moving unless it's to a more prestigious team within the two conferences.

I believe there is one that could be attainable if we really wanted to. Chris Jans is from Iowa, we have a higher valuation than MSST, and he has a track record of success.

He has had a scandal before which is why he was fired from Bowling Green. And his current contract is $4.2 million... I doubt we spend enough to bring him in, but at .718 win pct I think we should make the effort. (.629 in the SEC and has made the tourney 5 out of 6 possible times).

Buzz is not gettable. In general, getting a coach from the SEC is unlikely. The Big East, ACC or Big 12? Maybe.

For one thing, in basketball going from the SEC to the B1G is a step down.

You aren’t seriously suggesting that our U of M hires someone with a scandalous history? We? The Stanford of the Midwest! The epitome of virtue. Who do you think we are? UCLA? Kentucky? Hell, no one in our athletics department would even have the phone numbers of any hookers.

Why not? At some point, if you want to succeed, you have to pay the price. Back when we paid Tubby 2.5 million a year, our TV contract money was a fraction of what it is today.

They'll find a way to pay more than 1.9 million, but the U's budget of 140-150 million dollars will now include 20.5 million sliced out for paying the players which it didn't this year.

Unrelated to Buzz of course. No one is leaving TAMU for Minnesota.

Maryland is certainly a better job than A&M in the pre 2020 era
I’m not sure it is now. But he likes to move. Some people are movers and Maryland is a certainly a job you can compete at

Expect Maryland to get a new coach in 6 years. But most hires don’t last 4….

Maybe it's a big payday for Buzz, or they promised him better support & resources.
