per the Business Journal:

The Big Ten Conference's announcement Wednesday that it'll play a shortened football season means that the University of Minnesota Athletics' Department stands to make millions that it thought it lost just a month ago, when member colleges voted to postpone the season indefinitely.

But it won't be made whole.

The Gophers stand to recoup roughly 50% of their football-related revenue due to the restart, according to estimates from experts. The Big Ten teams will play eight regular-season games. The top teams in the Eastern and Western divisions will play in Big Ten Championship while the teams that finish second, third, and so on in each division will also face off.

Football brings in about $65 million a year, according to the university's financial reports. With nine games instead of the 13 played last year and few in attendance except friends, family and guests of players, there will still be huge losses.

The Gophers brought in about $9.4 million in football ticket sales last year, according to its 2019 fiscal report. That revenue stream will be severely diminished if not outright lost.

Go Gophers!!
