Per Thomas:

The good news is that Medved has been active since taking the job and has added a plethora of pieces to rebuild the program. They include the following:

  • Jaylen Crocker-Johnson (Colorado State)
  • Bobby Durkin (Davidson)
  • BJ Omot (California)
  • Langston Reynolds (Northern Colorado)
  • Nehemiah Turner (Central Arkansas)
  • Robert Vaihola (San Jose State)
  • Chansey Willis, Jr. (Western Michigan)
It’s a lot of bodies coming in the door, including multiple from the State of Colorado, where Medved spent the last few years. It should at least give the staff some bodies to work with next season.

So, what should Gopher fans make of these additions?

Generally speaking, they should be pretty excited.

The best way to evaluate the newcomers is to split between “difference makers” and additional pieces. As any fan knows, not all transfers are created equal. Some can make a difference immediately while others end up being role players.

Minnesota looks to add three players that look like potential difference makers in Durkin, Reynolds, and Willis. Durkin contributed on an underwhelming Davidson team, but put up efficient numbers and shot 35.1 percent from three. Similarly, Reynolds put up impressive numbers at Northern Colorado, playing over 80 percent of the team’s minutes and finishing with a 112.3 offensive rating. He was one of the best players in the Big Sky and got the Bears to the NIT. Willis was a scoring machine for the Broncos last season and should put up big numbers for Minnesota.

The remaining additions are a bit more uncertain. Crocker-Johnson only got limited minutes for Colorado State. Omot also only played limited minutes and will likely do the same next season. Conversely, Turner put up quality numbers, but did it for an objectively terrible Central Arkansas squad, so all of his numbers require a massive asterisk. Vaihola barely played over half of San Jose State’s minutes last season, so it’s hard to see him getting massive time for the Gophers.

That’s a pretty good group of newcomers and Minnesota still has room to add more pieces. Willis and Reynolds will likely grab the backcourt spots, Durkin and Crocker-Johnson look like the favorites on the wing, and Turner is likely to pencil in at the five. If the backcourt options can live up to expectations and Turner can surprise down low, it’s not hard to see Minnesota pushing for a postseason bid in Medved’s first campaign. The x-factor is Turner, who has a ton of potential if he hits. And fans have to be excited about that after the last few years.

Go Gophers!!

MN has to make the most of their roster and overachieve. Overall '25/'26 projection at #79 is interesting, but in the category of "Projected Effective Talent", each team is analytically evaluated.
#79 MN currently has the lowest "talent" category in the top 80 at 16.1 (scale of 100). Other programs following:
#87 Yale talent 10.8
#94 ILL St. 4.7
#95 Dayton 14.7
#97 Oregon St. 2.3
#98 Bradley 11.4

Top Five projected "talent" category ranked teams ready to underachieve:
Kentucky 87.3
UConn 86
Houston 85.7
Mizzou 82.4
Arkansas 82.2

We're in a dull period, and needed to look at something, probably meaningless.

Pretty bad article.

J Crocker-J is not a wing, he is a pf, 4 guy. He didn't play limited minutes. He was 5th on the team.

Leaving out probable starter Asuma as a talking point is quite the omission.
BJ Omot didn't play limited minutes, 26 a game. He could have stated he only played in 4 games!

The starting 5 are likely:
Willis and Asuma at guard
Dirkin and JCK at the forwards
Vaihola at center

Bench:
Reynolds could be instant offense. He can score and he shot the 3 well.
Omot a good 2-way player. SF unless they are going small ball.
The backup center is Turner, could push Vaihola if he gets into great shape.
PF/C Grove

Strengths: Wills, Asuma, Reynolds, and Omot have required length and athleticism to be above average defenders. JCJ is at least average.
Weakness: Almost all are mid-major players who will need time to adjust to bigger, faster, and stronger players. Only 1 knock down shooter in Dirkin, but 2 others with good numbers in Asuma and Reynolds.

Needs: more shooters, more depth.

Just the start of the article stating multiple players coming from Colorado....

I'm not ready to write Grove off, he's one guy that has B1G size and athleticism.
I'm not writing him off per se, but he hasn't played one minute of non exhibition basketball yet. Expectations should be on the floor. Nothing wrong with that, I hope he's on the roster next year.
