Brosmer in Vikings Game

Zero reason for Rypien to play another snap since we're fucked if he plays in the regular season. Split next game with Howell and Brosmer just to figure out if we can trust Howell, and third game should be entirely Brosmer's

Hey I hope you are right, but we are 1 preseason game and a couple of weeks of training camp.

It’s an NFL training camp, just about everyone on every team:
-“in the best shape of their careers”
-“the game has really slowed down”
-“exceeding expectations”
-“chance to be a real contributor”
-“a diamond in the rough”

On at least two occasions we have heard teams and their press rave about Tyler Johnson only to seem him cut.

A wise man once said optimism should be your food, but salt needs be your realism.
Yeah, I'm not one of these guys that gets hyped up by likely practice squad guys. And yes, it's preseason but if you want to be more than a practice squad guy first step is to look good in camp and preseason games. So far he's done well in both. Not saying he's a sure thing but for a UDFA QB he's looking pretty good. Again, for a UDFA QB. He still is a long shot to make a roster or ever start a game but the odds are increasing every time he does what he did in the game.

The Strib now projects Brosmer on to their assumed 53 man roster as the third QB
If they keep three and JJ, Howell, Rypien, and Brosmer are the ones to choose from it makes sense.

Rypien and Howell are both vet backups, I think you have them in training camp as you want one to be your backup to JJ and the other one will be cut. Makes sense to keep the younger project type of QB as your 3rd. If Max continues to look good and JJ looks good then at some point you're hoping you can flip Max for some draft capital. And also, at this point he looks clearly more capable than Rypien.

PJ had a statement he uses about his NFL career:

Never give them a reason to cut you

Brosmer is doing a good job at that.

Specifically at the NFL level / QB position, giving the team even just an inkling of "maybe this guy is better than where we got him at" seems like it can keep you on the roster.

This would be the time to pick up the vet qb and say goodbye to someone
They're not keeping two Vet QBs. It will be JJ and probably Howell and if they keep a 3rd it will probably be Max. They traded for Howell so they like him and he has actual experience, plus looked solid in the game. At this point I think it would be JJ, Howell, Max.

Outside of that maybe they decide to get rid of Howell and Rypien and bring in someone else but I think unless the rest of camp goes bad they would probably keep Max as the 3rd QB. Keep in mind they kept Jaren Hall on as QB 3.

I don't follow the game as much as I used to, but I browsed the box scores for the opening weekend of the NFL pre-season and there a ton of QBs trying to hang on for one more round so there will be a ton of movement at the last cutdown. I don't know if that helps or hurts Brosmer.

Given McCarthy's inexperience, I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings went with two experienced back-ups. I just have a hard time believing Rypien will be one of them. As I said above, there's likely to be a ton of guys available.

Having only seen preseason garbage time out of Rypien and Brosmer and taking into account unverifiable scuttlebutt from camp, at this point in camp, the roster could be JJ, Howell, Max. But, keep in mind that KOC likes a veteran project. If there is a Darnold/Daniel Jones type that comes available when rosters start cutting down, Minnesota will be an attractive destination and KOC has a history of scooping those guys up. Max would be the odd man out in that scenario unless we'd keep 4 QBs on the roster.

Couldn't Howell be the odd man out in that scenario? Maybe don't need 2 vet backups?

He is awful. He does an interview and then just spends 80% of it talking. The interviewees have to wonder why they are even there.

I just can’t believe there are enough people out there who enjoy his bit to justify him having the show in that slot.
Man....I thought I was the only one who thought this way....he is the WORST interviewer I've ever listened to. He will ask a question and interrupt the answer within 5 seconds....I've literally screamed at the radio before "let him F$@$%@ answer the question!!!!" So annoying.

OK, rant over.

Jim Rich? Tommy B? Dan Kolman? Lavelle? Cory cove? TC is full of awful interviewers

Sure. Last year Rypien was the odd man out. Nick Mullens was on the 53 man and Daniel Jones was in the practice squad, but promoted to the active roster for the playoffs. Jaren Hall was cut to make room for Rypien. The Vikings had draft capital in Hall like they do in Howell so anything is possible. Jaren Hall showed promise last preseason but the Vikings brought in Rypien and let Hall go. Except for JJ McCarthy, KOC has shown a definite preference for veteran QBs. So unless Brosmer really shows he's something special, you'd have to think Brosmer is the odd man out in the aforementioned scenario.

We did a game on our podcast about an interview that Bill Maher did with Billy Joel.

The viewers would use the comment section to give us a random time stamp between 5 minutes into the interview to 1 hour 18 minutes (total time of the interview, after the intro).

The rules were, at that exact time that was chosen by a viewer, the host would ask for your choice, forward the video to that exact time...you could pick who would be talking. You got 5 points if you picked Billy Joel and only 1 point if you picked Bill Maher.

I picked Bill Maher every time, and my opponent picked Billy Joel every time.

I won 6-5. Talk about a blowhard.

I don't think Rypien is eligible for the practice squad, but he's far more likely to make it through waivers than Brosmer.
