I think will make a great photo opportunity on campus! Looks like it's being unveiled tomorrow: http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/090512aae.html

I like the sentiment but don't think that looks good (if indeed the finished product looks like the rendering above)

Really? I think it looks kinda cool. Fits with the surrounding buildings.

Eh, I think the Block M is cool but the rendering makes Goldy look a little "off" to me. Maybe I'm crazy.

The image of the Goldy Gopher costume seems more like the "real" Goldy Gopher to me than the drawn image of Goldy, and this statue is based on the drawn image of Goldy. I'm not criticizing the statue, it's just how I percieve Goldy. I think it would be cool if this statue is kept shiny by thousands of students rubbing it for luck on their way to the stadium.

I'd prefer it if Goldy was on his three wheeled scooter, cape blowing majestically in the wind.

If you look closely, it appears the display screen on the woman's camera is of the statue -- like she's actually taking the picture. That's some keen graphic designing. I'm having a harder time verifying the authenticity of the balloon reflections.

It took a bit to figure out that it wasn't a real picture. The first thing I noticed was that the steps of the platform were too perfect.

Indiana has a bust of my wife's great-grandfather Ernest Hiram Lindley in their Psych building (Lindley Hall) and they rub the nose of it before games for good luck. It's kind of a neat tradition (although the football team obviously hasn't benefitted from it in a long time). Maybe the students could rub Goldy's tail or something. (Get a little tail before the game??? :))

I like the Goldy statue in front of Coffman, but something like that in front of the stadium would have been awesome - especially in the neighborhood of the student entrance.

Also, the woman taking the photo is transparent. Maybe she's a ghost.

I love it. And if I'm able, would love to drop a few bucks for it to stay.

Anyone at the pep rally today? How's it look?

I was at the rally. There is no statue. The Party on the Plaza was a Pep Rally and also unveiled the prototype of the statue (the prototype will be on display inside of Coffman). They will be raising funds for the statue throughout the year. I thought the rally was pretty well done.
