Big Ten Conference weekly honors continue to roll in for the Gophers this season as freshman defenseman Michael Brodzinski was named the league’s Third Star of the Week on Tuesday after tallying three points over the weekend.

The top-ranked Gophers have earned Big Ten weekly honors in all six weeks of action this year with six Gophers earning a total of eight accolades.

Brodzinski scored a pair of power-play goals against in-state rival Minnesota Duluth over the weekend and added an assist against the Bulldogs in Friday’s 6-1 win. The Ham Lake, Minn., native nearly doubled his season point total over the weekend, ending the series with seven points on the year. The freshman’s four goals rank second among Big Ten defensemen this season while Brozinski has also tallied three assists in eight games for the 2013-14 season.

Minnesota (9-2-1 overall, 0-0-0-0 Big Ten) returns to action this weekend with the first-ever Big Ten Conference games on Friday and Saturday against border rival and No. 12/13-ranked Wisconsin. Friday’s series opener is set for 4:00 p.m. CT (ESPNU, BTN2Go.com, 1500 ESPN) while Saturday’s finale is set for 5 p.m. (FOX Sports North, BTN2Go.com, 1500 ESPN).
