Can we now officially drop that stupid "Gopher Nation" and go back our "Gold Country" that we used for as long as I can remember???

It is more Minnesota tradition than using a generic ...... Nation.

Anything to make Gopher Nation go away. That is so cringe inducing.

No, Gopher Nation is here to stay

I agree that Gopher Nation is rather generic, but it caught on a lot better than Gold Country ever did.

I don't care. Never really understood 'Gold Country' because, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't our primary color maroon?

But, either way, I'm all for it.

No Wacker-era gold helmets, keep them maroon. They gold helmets look too much like Purdue's. Besides, the gold color we use is not a metallic gold color.

Let us return to our football tradition of the last 50 years. Embrace the mediocrity. Maybe we need a totally new direction?

You don't understand the concept of tradition. Embracing tradition is in no way embracing mediocrity. Scrapping tradition doesn't help anything.

I thought everyone wanted to go with the "white flag" color scheme now?

No, our primary color really isn't maroon. Last I checked we were the GOLDEN Gophers.

Another golden gopher... FIRST DOWN! <-- Needs to go
Gopher Nation <-- Needs to go
Maturi <-- Needs to go
Uniform marry-go-round <-- Needs to go

Nevertheless, we are the Golden Gophers.

And give up harping against the first down cheer. You're outnumbered 100 to 1. It's something that fans actually participate in.

Rebrand the Team

We need a better name than Gophers (Gopher Nation, Gold Country)

Maybe: The Rangers -- after the 1st Ranger battalion (80% were from Minnesota, the Dakotas and Nebraska). Could be a trophy game between Minnesota and Nebraska for the Ranger "Tab", an M1 carbine rifle. This is Ranger Territory! Lead the way! Might be the only traveling trophy that actually honors the citizens of both states and would be happy to be in either local, figuratively speaking.

Why not now!

Worst. Post. Ever.

This idea is right up there with Burrito's suggestion yesterday that we "pick new school colors".

Maroon and Gold came before Golden Gophers. Maroon is the primary color, gold is the secondary.

Goldy gives you the icy glare of death! "Maroon Country" would invite nasty jokes from our neighbors, anyhow. :pig:

I used this picture as my signature a few years back, I recreated it after seeing the endzone at Memorial Stadium sometime in the 1970's.

and this one from Williams Arena, I saw a picture with this too, and used it during basketball season:

We can't stop here...this is "Gold Country"

Wow, I have a very different opinion on that. In the 70s and 80s, you saw and heard Gold Country everywhere. I'm assuming because the school embraced it in its marketing. When I see or hear anything about Gopher Nation, it's mostly being mocked.

Gold Country is far better if, for no other reason, it's different than other schools. But I'd also say it has a pretty strong tradition around here.

The first Rangers were "Roger's Rangers". They served in the French and Indian War.
Not much of a connection to Minnesota.

Perfect! and I'll add one more:

that is an awesome endzone design. I wish we still had that. the entire country would instantly know whose field that is by that endzone

My perspective, from not living in the Twin Cities until the 1990's was that Gold Country was just the name of a store that sold Gopher gear. It may well have been popular before, but it seemed to have waned seriously.
