Brian Bennett: If TCF isn't full of Gopher fans vs UW, Minn can't complain about bowl

We've an unbalanced ethnic group in this State. Too many Scandinavians, and not enough Irish, Polish, Italians, English, Aussies and French. I honestly believe that if we were playing a game at TCF
that would get us the too the BTT Game and there was a mega flea market at the Dome the same day. The flea market would outdraw TCF. Now, don't get me wrong, My mom's side of the family are
Norwegians , and my mom was extremely generous. My dad was Irish and would've given you his last
dime. But many-members on my mom's side were tight with the buck. They wanted "value " for what they spent. Forget the enjoyment part. We shop Flea Markets because we've a Vintage Picks business on EBay. Scandinavians soak up Flea Markets because they can offer .50
cents on a dollar item!! They're are giddy just because they saved .50 cents!
I would love to see the ethnic background of our season ticket holders. Good people?
absolutely. Great core values? Absolutely. Tight with the buck? A given. Now,
is that protocol for all Scandinavians ? No it isn't, but damn there are a lot of them

And no mention of us Germans? Thanks Bozo.

Ok. Keep your heads in the sand and allow badger fans to lecture us on what is wrong with attendance while chunks of seats sit empty today in camp randall. What are you people, into self torture? It's a college football problem not a minnesota problem. Sheesh! Do the research.

Based on your recommendation I did the research and discovered that declining attendance is not just a college football problem. It is also an NFL problem.

NFL attendance is down four straight years

Attendance in the NFL has fallen four straight years, and is down over five percent since the 2007 season. Also, in 2007, the NFL sold 99.9 percent of the available tickets. In 2010, that number was down to 94.6 percent.

It's a trend hitting the league regardless of market size or on-field success. In 2008, only five teams played to stadiums less than 95 percent full. That number has doubled this season at a time when TV ratings are at their best since 2006.

The Washington Redskins have one of the NFL's rising stars in quarterback Robert Griffin III and are playing to just 88.9 percent capacity this season. The surprising New York Jets have the nation's largest metropolitan area to pull from and only 93.3 of those with tickets are showing up.

The NFL amended its TV blackout rule last year, allowing teams to sell only 85 percent of its prime tickets to meet the threshold necessary to have home games broadcast locally. While the decision has done nothing but goose TV ratings even further, getting folks into the stadium on a regular basis in some cities remains a tough task.

Oakland and Jacksonville swath their stadiums in massive drapes that cover entire sections. It reduces capacity but hasn't exactly increased demand. While the atmosphere has improved with the Raiders, only 81.4 percent of ticket holders make it to their seats. More than 10 percent of those with tickets in Jacksonville don't bother to get an eyeful of one of the league's worst teams.

Yup, it's all too obvious, and unsettling, that rabid sports fans are choosing to follow their teams by NOT attending the event. It's important that we not beat up on ourselves over empty seats and thereby miss the larger problem. Reading about Missouri, LSU and Georgia, along with many others, struggling with rapidly declining student and general attendance is not what I expected to find when I started looking, but there it is.

Blame StubHub and TicketKing, the cheapest ticket is $86 for an upper deck seat next Saturday. Not too many people going to pay that.

The cheapest tickets for this game through the MN athletic department was $75 I believe.

Correct. I picked up 5 upper deck tickets at $75 a piece from Gophersports.com. I initially checked out stubhub and laughed when I saw nosebleeders in section 245 going for $104 each.

Here is a picture of Oklahoma's student section 15 minutes before game time today. As others have mentioned even the helmet schools with warmer climates are having troubles with attendance.

Let's be real, we had a whole thread of 'gopher fans' b*thing about American flag pattern on our helmet logo in honor of Veterans day, some socialist d*uche bags going as far as saying they weren't going to attend the game for that simple reason, now we can't understand why we would be picked over for a better bowl game because the other schools have classier fans than us?? Wake up and figure it the hell out...

Racial profiling is a dangerous, inflammatory subject, not matter how many facts, examples or statistics you present.

You enjoy going to message boards in the middle of the night and call people socialists because of their stance on a helmet decal. You may want to wake up and figure it the Hell out.
