Brewster says Gophers quarterback job is open

LMAO Nice prediction idiot.

The only idiot is Brewster for playing Weber out of his natural position for 4 years...What a shame! Weber coulda been the next Dallas Clark and the Gophers coulda developed a more viable QB.

I am for putting Weber at whatever position puts him out of the QB role and keeps the ball out of his hands. Maybe D line? He would not be likely to touch the ball.

I think Weber coulda developed into a great TE if he had been transitioned earlier....He coulda bulked up a little and with three years of pass catching and route running, he woulda been a fine TE....he had pretty good feet and toughness....good athlete....Why the hell not?

Does anyone remember that Gray spent a year away from football while he got himself eligible? Don't you think that affected his readiness last year. Who knows what will happen between now and September, but I think there are a lot of people who are really overestimating their own abilities to evaluate football readiness.

I actually agree with bankonit on this one. I have been a gigantic Brewster supporter, but if he starts Weber and Weber doesn't prove me completely wrong. I probably won't start the "Fire Brew" chants, but I can't say he wouldn't deserve them.

The only way that I could see Weber winning out a competition is if the staff thinks that a team with Weber at QB and Gray at WR is better than a team that simply has Gray at QB. What I mean is that I thought Gray looked like he could be a possible NFL WR, and if the staff feels like we are a better team with him split out wide, I guess it could make a tiny bit of sense. However, I really have a hard time believing that we aren't an exponentially better team with Gray as our QB (just his ability to scramble would improve our running game significantly).

I always thought he should have been better prepared because of his year off. Study the game for a year and then come in ready to go. I don't think it is a secret that if Gray knew the offense better he would have been starting last year.

I think the biggest disadvantage he has is that during that year off we were still a spread team. Had he knew to work on his footwork that could have been a big advantage. I never played QB, but apparently the footwork is more difficult to master than I would have thought.

True on the spread/pro style problem.

I'm a Pro-Weber guy, but I also want the best players to start. That means Gray should start...if he knew how.

did everyone already forget the fumble last year? Also ask ANYONE who ever had the chance to watch the team practice last year, HE CAN'T HOLD ONTO THE BALL!

Yes, I remember that Weber fumble.

I guess so par fans like you missed the bowl game, but everyone else who is of any intelligence knows what fumble I was talking about.

Did you miss Weber's interceptions in that game? Why are you willing to overlook that?

weber was terrible last year everyone knows that(even his mom would probably admit it), but you can't just hand the starting job to MQG unless his fumbling problem is fixed. Insiders know he fumbles way to much.

ps the bowl game pick wasn't webers fault.

the fumbles are a problem but they don't bother me as much because Gray will make enough good plays to make up for them, Weber won't make enough spectacular plays to make up for the picks, unless bouncing the pass off the grass is spectacular. We need a change at QB to change the outlook and fans feelings about this program rather than a "here we go again" mentality with Weber starting again.

What about Gray's picks?

Grays fumbling is not a major issue. The fumble in the bowl game was a complete fluke play. The D-lineman inadvertantly knocked the ball out while trying to beat the O-lineman.

Webers play last season was largely due to a overall lack of performance by the entire offensive unit. It's the whole chicken or the egg thing.

If Weber was as bad as some think, I believe the coaching staff would have jump started the Gray era last season. I also believe that a combination of Webers play (like all players improvement is needed) and Grays potential has led to an open competition.

Gray to Wr? Ony because Gray is a world class athlete on a team that needs more of them. If he doesn't win the starting position can the Gophers really afford to leave him on the bench?

That's what I think anyway.

Well, actually you are right. The Gophers can not afford to have Gray on the sideline while attempting to mount offensive attacks this year. Frankly, I can not fathom the coaching staff being unable to get him substantial work at the QB spot no matter who starts. Playmakers make plays in big games, but they have to be in the game.
